Lost Backup File

Seem to have lost my last backup file.  Have found a mdtxnarchive file, under .moneydance\safe\archive, with the right modified date attached to it but don’t know how to get the file to open in Moneydance.   Does anyone know how to do this?

Hello!

Sorry for the lack of response here. This is our new support site that we're getting ready to use but we haven't yet migrated to it from the old (and current) site at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com.

Heather, the quickest way to find your backup file would be to search your system for any files ending with (or having the extension) ".moneydancearchive"

If you don't find any such files on your computer we can get more into the details to find out where moneydance is putting your backups. If you're using a recent version of Moneydance you can use the Help->Show Backup Folder to reveal the folder where the backups are set, or you can check the Backups tab of the Moneydance preferences.

Thanks,

Sean

I found my backup files but the most recent one saved is dated 11/20/22.  I have preferences set to backup every day!  Today my bank account is TOTALLY off - I've been reconciling it for months now and almost had it perfectly up to date. (new user- transferred files from 2002)  Where is YESTERDAY'S backup file??

Just found more backups.  These are 1 per month.

Hi Jane,

In Moneydance you can specify how often backups are made, where they are saved, and how many to keep around. In order to not overwrite or have older backups lost I recommend not running Moneydance again until you find where the most recent backups are stored.

To find the latest backups on your computer I recommend doing a file search for any files ending with the .moneydancearchive file extension, then sort the results by the date they were modified (not the names of the files, which also include the dates). Depending upon whether you find the most recent files or not we could arrange a screen sharing session to help you going again. If you'd like to do this, you can book a time that works best for you here: https://calendly.com/tikhelp/30min

Please note though that if you have stored your moneydance data file (the file itself, not the backups) in a synced folder such as Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive, then it's possible that it has been corrupted and we'll need to find and restore from one of your backups, or from your synced data, if you had enabled syncing for your file using Moneydance's File->Syncing menu.

Thanks,

Sean
