iPhone & iPad app Frequently Asked Questions

We've put together some of the most common iPod app issues here. We expect this article will evolve over time. For simplicity's sake I will refer to the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad simply as the "device".

Please be sure you are using the most recent stable build of Moneydance before beginning- For Moneydance 2008 users this is build 643, for Moneydance 2010 users it is 757, and for Moneydance 2011 users it is 803.

If you need additional assistance you can contact our support staff through our forum, or by emailing us at support@moneydance.com. Please be sure to post your question in the "iPhone app" category and use a descriptive subject line so we can more efficiently address your issue.

1) Yes, the access key is really long. That's because it is the full encryption key that is used to protect the data which is moving between your device and the desktop Moneydance application.

2) The only characters used in the access key are A-F and 0-9 (ie no Os, lower case Ls, etc). The key is NOT case sensitive.

3) Your device must be connected via WiFi to the same local network as the computer running the desktop Moneydance application.

4) You must download and install the "Network Synchronizer" extension in your desktop Moneydance application to be able to connect with your device. To do this, go to Extensions-> Add -> From the Internet -> Network Synchronizer

5) Your device must be running the Moneydance app in order for the desktop version of Moneydance (or rather, the extension) to "see" the device to add it. Sometimes it might take a few seconds for the extension to see the device on the network.

6) If you would like your Moneydance data file to "forget" a device, open one copy of the data file, select Extensions->Configure Network Syncing, select the device from the list, and click the "Forget Device" button.

7) Syncing should start when either 1) the iPhone & iPad app comes online if the desktop app is running, or 2) the desktop app+extension comes online (or a file is opened) and the iPhone & iPad app is running.
