In the Edit categories, I see that one can change the currency each category is going to be represented in, however, if category already has transaction then it doesn't seem allow for changes, is there a way to change this?
In the Budget tables, which compares budget vs. Actual- is there a way of configuring it so that when u click on the actual it takes u to the transactions that integrate it, like it does inthe expense tables?

It is not possible to change the currency on a category once it contains transactions. The reason for this is that the exchange rates associated with each transaction would no-longer be correct if you changed the currency. The only way to get the transactions in a category of the correct currency is to create a new category (with the desired currency) and then move the transactions into the new category. There are still going to be problems with the exchange rates and you will need to fix the exchange rates on each transaction manually. To move transactions from one category to another select Tools->Edit Categories. Create the new category. Double click on the category you want to move the transactions from. Select all the transactions in the register by clicking on one of them and then pressing ctrl-A. Right click on all the selected transactions and select Batch Change->Account (That is not a typo you are changing the expense account these transactions are in) select the destination expense account from the popup window.

Moneydance does not not allow you to drill down and see the transactions that make up the budget totals. There is an existing suggestion ticket for drill down in the budget report in our issue tracking system. I have attached the ticket to this discussion. By posting in this discussion you have voted for the ticket.

    Thanks Ben.
    1. Where do I find the ticket you mentioned?
    2. Also, when I set up the Exchange Rate for Honduran Lempiras and created the account i put the exchange rate directly in box. However, I am looking at certain transactions where the exchange rate changes from one transaction to another just slightly at the third decimal point. Why is it doing that? When I have only entered one specific rate. Then I tried to go into transaction and change the rate but it ignores the change, i even changed the transaction amount in original currency to see if it would change but it doesnt. How can one correct the changes manually?
    3. Also in the Exchange rate box, it allows to add in exchange rates by date. How does this work? If I put exchange rate for 8-27-10 does that mean all new transaction from that date on will be on the rate? And if I put this rate to a date prior to today's does it change the historical ones?
    Thanks.

    1) The ticket is attached directly to this discussion. All user and support comments on the discussion happens in the discussion thread. The status of the ticket is shown at the top right of the discussion. If the developers resolve the ticket they will post information about the resolution in this discussion.

    2) I think what is happening is that you are trying to change the exchange rate on the other side of the transaction. i.e. you are looking at the transaction in the expense category register rather than in the bank register where the transaction was entered. The exchange rate on a transaction can only be edited on the side of the transaction where the transaction was created (in this case in the bank account). There is a display bug on the other side of the transaction where by it displays the original exchange rate that was used for this transaction even if it was edited on the source side. I have attached that bug ticket to this discussion as well. You can only edit the exchange rate on the on a transaction in the register you created the transaction in.

    3) If you look at the exchange rate history for a particular currency there is the exchange rate history table and above it a "Rate:" field. All new transactions will use the rate in the "Rate:" field regardless of what is in the history table.

    Ben,
thanks. Resolved. The history table is just a reference but does not affect anything.
The Rate field is the one that matters. But making changes to it only affects new transactions not historical ones. Is this correct.

Can you tell me exactly what happens when you try to run the program? Is it possible the program is starting up minimized on the taskbar? If so right click on the item on the taskbar and select maximize.

If that is not the problem can you send me the error log. On windows XP you can find it under:

    C:\Documents and settings.moneydance\errlog.txt
