Lost or corrupt files
I downloaded Moneydance today, installing Java as it instructed. I have since been following the instructions for transferring data from MS Money. It was tredious, but all went well until I closed and reopened the program. This brings up an error notice 'Error:java.lang.Exception:invalid data format or file corrupted'. Can you suggest a way round this? Thanks for your help.

How are you opening the program? By double clicking a data file or the program icon? Can you send a screenshot of the entire error message?
Is it possible that you have two versions of Moneydance installed on your computer, w here one is the older 2008 version?
If possible after the error message please select Help->About Moneydance and tell me the build number.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

I've opened the programme both from the desktop icon and from the application file in the programmes folder, with the same result. Oddly, Moneydance isn't listed in the main programmes list.
I'm not sure what I should see when opening the programme - I just get the small green box headed 'Getting started with Moneydance', with buttons for create, open and import file, as when I first installed. That means I can't get to 'Help', but I've done a search and found something called an 'errlog' which refers to Moneydance 2010r3 (751). In the 'Getting started' box, I have been clicking on the 'open existing file' button, then I get a grey Java box headed 'Open', followed by 'Look in'...C. I'm not sure how to do a screen shot of this.
I don't think I have an earlier version installed.
Thanks very much for your help, best wishes.

I've now read more of the earlier support discussions and realised what I was doing wrong - I hadn't saved properly to a file I could access. Now working fine so far, so thanks for your help.
On a different point, past prices for investments (other than when I've bought or sold) don't seem to have transferred - in case it matters, they are all UK investments. Can I bring over historical prices from MS Money?
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Charles
I don't think that MS Money actually export historical prices for securities. Other users who have wanted price histories have user a piece of software called "Yahoo & Google Historical Quotes Downloader". The process is a little time consuming.. Here is the link:
http://download.cnet.com/Yahoo-Google-Historical-Quotes-Downloader/...
You can use it to download a historical prices and then save them as a csv file. You can then import this csv file for each security into Moneydance. To do the import select Tools->Edit Securities. Select the security of interest and click the Edit button and then click the import button.

Hi Ben
Thanks for this. Getting stuff over from MS Money is still proving a challenge - bank accounts are easy, but making investments balance and keeping the accounts stable are taking time. Anyway, thanks for all your help - most impressive service. Best wishes
