Rather than entering the name of the payee in the payee/description field, click on the up and down arrows at the end of the field. This will bring up the payee list and you can select the the correct payee. Payees that are in the address book will have the @ symbol at the beginning of their name in this list.

Thanks! I was able to figure this out with your help! I really like the program-but it is difficult to change from my old comfortable ways!

You are welcome! It gets easier I promise. If you haven't see the Moneydance manual you may find it useful:

Are you sure it gets easier???LOL I really appreciate your help! I messed up reconciling too!

Are you referring to moving the address book window that is access by selecting Tools->Address Book? If you are then click and drag in the title bar of the Address book window to move the window.
If you are referring to the payee selector used to select the payee in the transaction entry control, then you can use the scroll bar on the select box to see the items at the bottom.

I am referring to the payee selector-when I scroll down it will not scroll all the way to the bottom of my list -thus I cannot access all of the payees I have entered

That is odd. i am not able to reproduce the problem you are describing. What operating system are you running?
Could you take a screenshot of the problem. press the print screen key on your keyboard to take a screenshot
If you type the first character of the payee name and then click the up/down arrows the list displayed will only show those that start with the character you typed.

I wonder if he's using the Mac version? This might relate to the bug in the Mac version where the dropdown menus drop below the dock so you can't see everything.

I am using the Mac version-can this be fixed?

I think John Selden solved the problem by saying it is a bug in the Mac version that will not show the dropdown completely-can this be fixed? Your suggestion to type just the first couple of letters then hit the arrow is helpful

The problem with rendering the selector behind the doc is a bug in the version of java that comes with OSX. We have a suggestion ticket in our issue tracking system to render dropdown selectors up instead of down when they are near the bottom of the screen to avoid this problem. Here is the link to the ticket.

I increased the priority on this ticket.
Sincerely
