I am a Money Plus user who has been looking for alternatives. After reading about Moneydance, I went ahead and purchased it, imported transactions and have been exploring its functionality. But it looks like I should have asked about pill pay before making my purchase.

My credit union didn't allow me to automaically downloand my transactions into Money so I had to manually do it by periodically importing a file. However, I was able to use the MSN Bill pay service with Money with no problem. I didn't expect that I would be able to use online banking with Moneydaynce either, but thought I would be able to do something silimar with bill pay. Did I misunderstand? I thought that Moneydance had like functionality, but I don't find much information in help or the FAQs and I can't do anything in my account with out first connecting to online banking. Can you tell me what bill pay in Moneydance does? Is this something I should be able to use?

As I understand it, bill pay in Moneydance only works with banks that support direct connect. It interfaces directly with your bank to set up payments, just as if you went to your bank's website and made the payment from there. Since your credit union apparently does not support direct connect, you won't be able to use bill pay either. This is the same way that bill pay works in Quicken and Money. Microsoft and Quicken also offer third party bill pay services that work outside of the bank's own electronic payment system. It sounds like that is what you were using before.

If you haven't checked already, be sure that your credit union does not appear on the list of supported institutions in Moneydance. You can do it from the software or at http://www.moneydance.com/fi.

Just to add to John's comments (from some time ago), Check Free Online Bill Paying offers an equivalent service as MSN Bill pay. Here is the the link: https://mycheckfree.com/br/wps?sp=10001&rq=bfbl

Check Free is a bill paying service that is supported by Moneydance.
