Same problem as Discussion started by Dick Barrett. Last updated
on May 18, 2010 @ 08:58 AM.
I have to paste registration number every time I launch Moneydance
on iMac, Snowleopard.
Unfortunately Dick does not say how the issue was resolved.
I've not had this type of problem before with any other
softwares.

Check the read/write permissions for your .moneydance folder. Snowleopard changed alot of folders to read only by itself.

James, where is the .moneydance folder located. Search does not find.
kmnugent, permissions for Home folder are OK.
Go to folder <~/.moneydance> results in "the folder can't be found".
Permissions have also been repaired twice.

.moneydance folder is within your home folder.

Can you confirm that the permissions are correct on your home folder as described in this article.

Hi findlekind,
You may want to try re-installing Moneydance to see if it builds the .moneydance folder.

Reinstalling Moneydance should not make any difference.
The .moneydance folder is created when you run Moneydance if the folder does not exist and if you have write permission. If the .moneydance folder is not created when you run Moneydance then there is a permissions problem with your home folder.

Ben - permissions are set to Read & Write for Home Folder (see attachment).
KMNugent - I have reinstalled 3 times as per intructions on download page. Previous installations were trashed as were Moneydance preferences prior to new launch.
james - the folder is not on the first level of my Home folder or Documents folder. What is the exact location?

The hidden folder ought to be at /Users/richardstark/.moneydance .
Try using Go to Folder /Users/richardstark/.moneydance

james - I have used Cocktail to reveal invisible items; the folder <.moneydance> is not there.

Have you ran Moneydance since repairing permissions on your Home folder?
13 Posted by findlekind on 25 Sep, 2011 04:43 PM
james - yes, I have run it since repairs, and also with reinstalled Moneydance.

Moneydance has accepted the registration.
I created the <.moneydance> folder in a subdirectory because I was not permitted to create a folder in Home. I then dragged the newly created folder into my home folder. I was asked for authentification for some reason. Any how, it works now.
Any ideas on why this is happening?

Got it.
Somehow the Home folder did have incorrect permission; for a user (me) of a different name.
I think all is now well.
Thank You everyone for your quick and helpful responses.
