Data not loading
I followed the instructions in FAQ and exported then imported the data. The file size is about 3.6 megs. Most transactions got loaded but some are missing. I have checking and credit card transactions - no investments. I have many split transactions.

Hi Ed
This is a support forum not a real time chat service. We typically have a response time of under 24 hours.
Can you tell me your operating system and the version of Quicken that you used to generate the QIF file?
If you are on a mac and coming from Quicken for mac can you install this version of Moneydance instead.
http://moneydance.com/tmp/daily/installers/792/MacOS_X/
All versions of Quicken produce QIF files in slightly different ways. Sadly there is not standard or specification. The version of Moneydance linked to above contains a new algorithm specifically for dealing with the particularities of Quicken for mac.
You will need to create a new Moneydance data file to perform the import again. You can do this by running Moneydance and selecting File->New...

Have you now tried the new build that I linked you to? Did that make a difference?
Specifically what transactions are not loading? Is it all transactions prior to a particular date?

Ben, no I did not. You stated in your email that if I am on a mac and
coming from Quicken for mac can you install this version of Moneydance
instead. I am on Windows and going to Mac. Should I still try this new
build.
Missing transactions seem to be adhoc. I checked my checking account
from the beginning and first few hundred were fine. I did not pin
point exactly when it missed. I know that at least in one instance
ending transactions were missing.
May be it is the size of the file that is a problem. I can export
different transactions from Quicken and load them that way if that
will make a difference.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to use try the import with the daily build on your data file.
The first thing I would do would be to export the QIF file from Quicken again. Make sure that all accounts in Quicken are open. e.g. any that you have closed in the past should be reopened and all accounts for all time should be exported to a single QIF file.
Have you ever archived your Quicken data file? I understand that some versions of Quicken only do a partial archive on Asset accounts. If you have transfers to or from asset account that have been archived by quicken this may result in the appearance of additional or missing transactions in other accounts involved in the transfer.
When you import the QIF file make sure that you follow the instructions in the article here:
http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-from-quicken-or-ms-money/...
There is no standard for QIF files. It was never intended as a file format for transferring an entire set of accounts from one program to an other. I have seen examples of QIF files (particularly from older versions of Quicken) that contain malformed data that is inherently ambiguous. In many cases it is not even possible to go from one version of Quicken to another version of Quicken with a QIF file. If following the instructions linked above does not produce a satisfactory result it may be that your QIF file cannot be imported.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

Hi Ben,
Made good progress. I installed the build you suggested and re-
imported all data from Quicken. All accounts are fine except cash. It
has a $300 transaction in 9/5/1955 which is not supposed to be there.
If I delete it then Cash also balances. Is it worth investigating?
I have 2 questions.
The sidebar shows all my accounts, most of them are closed, some with
zero balance. How do I hide them that they do not appear in the side
bar and in any drop downs?
Will tis build work with Mac OS Lion?

Hi Ed,
To hide an account from drop down lists, you must first make it 'Inactive'. To do so, access the account in question, then from the Menu bar click on 'Account' then 'Edit Account'. In the resulting form, put a checkmark next to 'Inactive'.
As for the $300 txn from 1955, I would not be too concerned about it. What you may want to do is just make an annotation about this txn in the 'Comments' area of the Account. The 'Comments' area is in the same form as the 'Inactive' option.
To remove an item from the side bar, click the (-) minus sign at the bottom of the side bar.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you very much. I followed your isntrucitons and it worked like a
charm. :)
Someone I do not see the re-occurring transactions that I had in
Quicken in Moneydance. Should I create them manually?
Quicken offers the re-occurring paycheck deposit setup. Is there one
in Moneydance?
I downloaded user guide 2011. Not sure if I have the most recent one.

Hi Ed,
In Moneydance re-occuring txns are called 'Reminders'. Chapter 7 of the Moneydance User Guide has a brief description of them
As you will discover, there are usually few different ways to do almost anything in Moneydance. The same holds true to access Reminders:
1. Menu bar > Tools > Reminders > New General / New Transaction Reminder.
2. 'Reminders' from the sidebar > right-click a date in the Calendar or click the (+) in the lower right.
3. Right-click a date in the Home Page Calendar > New Reminder
4. Right click an existing txn > Memorize
I find option # 4 the easiest when the txn already existis in your register as would a paycheck deposit. This method will create the 'Reminder' with much of the information needed already entered for you, including splits.

Ed,
Kevin's advice is all excellent. The 2011 User Guide is the right tool to be using, and please do feel free to post here if you have any other questions.
Thanks for using Moneydance, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Ben, I downloaded this special version of MD. I am moving to Lion OS
and tried to download it again and it is apparently removed. Should I
just move MD app from the odl mac to OS Lion? Would it work?
