Just downloaded the demo version yesterday and spent about 2 hours finding my way around. My impression is that this is a very unrefined package - it doesn't even have a tool bar. Everything has to be accessed through the menus and they're not very intuitive.

I got it to connect with my bank and download the last 90 days of postings. I have sent a few payments through but keep getting errors that it can't connect to the bank to upload the payment, then I'll try it again and it will upload - strange.

The normal functions that allow you to see what payments have been made to individual payee's don't seem to exist, which is what I'm searching for now.

Since I have 99 payments to make before I have to buy this I think I will just use it for a few months and see if I can get everything I need out of it.

It's probably worth the $50 - but not much more.

    SG-

Thanks for the information I appreciate you're taking the time to reply.

Upload, no-upload sounds very mystical and does not bode well for one's
    comfort level, at least mine.

Ive imported 25 accounts into MD from MS Money 2005 a few days ago and it went OK with the exception of one security in 4 investment accounts, but I think I can fix that to my satisfaction.

My problem with MS Money 2005 (Canadian Edition) is if my harddrive crashes my data is gone.

I can't update the software (there is a major update that was on Microsoft's site but no longer available), I can't use the US Money sunset Edition (to my knowledge) and I hate the Quicken Sunset policy which forces me to replace perfectly good software every 3 years to boost Intuit's profits. Quicken will not import QIF files from MS Money, and MS Money 2005 wont export anything but QIF files...So MD is a good solution.

Their account registry is as good as Money's, in fact making entries into an investment account is easier because you don't have to switch between the cash and investment side of the account as you do with Money.

Also, I was able to download my transactions from my Canadian bank (downloaded as a Quicken file which MD recognizes) and get it into my Chequing account with no problems.

MD is not nearly as buggy as MS Money when you want to generate a custom report. I used to have to be very careful in MS Money to customize reports or the program would lock up. It used to drive me crazy. MD is much better in this regard.

One area that MD falls down is tracking portfolio performance. I am getting some completely strange numbers not even close to MS Money's but this may be because I need to tweak the report settings from the default setting in MD. When I have more time I will play with this. This is the part that needs to be improved in MD. MS Money tracked investment performance very well IMO and MD is still a work in progress.

Last, the price is pretty good, I got MD for $39.99 USD saving $10 by 'liking' MD on their facebook page :-)

I remember MS Money being a learning curve when I first starting using it, MD will be the same but I think your previous experience with Money will help you setting up MD to your satisfaction. Check the forums if you have a problem, chances are the answer is here somewhere.

    Ron,

I first downloaded Moneydance in 2006 when I was finally so sick of MSMoney that I was willing to take the risk. So glad I did!

I had a good experience moving my accounts, but it is a step by step process. To insure a reliable transfer, be sure to follow all the steps shown in the following article:

If you have any questions, there is always help available on the forum. There are many who have successfully made the switch who are willing to assist you.
