Hi,
I'm sorry you're having trouble connecting. It will help me troubleshoot the issue if you could provide me with the exact error message you receive when trying to connect.
Additionally, if you could copy and paste the version information from your error console, that would be very helpful. You can open the error console by going to the Help menu and clicking on the Console Window option. Just copy and paste the first four lines of the console window here.

When I go to the online menu, and click on the drop menu To set up online Banking, then I get the flowing menu,
To change the financial institution for the account, click the disable button below. Click the disable button bellow to remove online access for the account. Click the refresh button to reload the information associated with the financial institution
Name U.S. Bank - PFM Direct Connect
Address P.O. Box 150
City, State Portland Oregon
Postal Code 97208
URL:http//www.usbank.com/
Change Disable Reset Sync Change Pin Done I click DONE
Then I go back to drop down menu and click on Download Joe's Transactions Then I get the following screen , and this is where i get into trouble
On line Banking authentication
Financial Institution : U.S. Bank- PFM Direct Connect
Joe's checking
Authentication Type: Password Pin
User I.D. My social security #
Password/ Pin
When I put my social security number in and my pin number, I get the following; Given Customer I.D. or Pin number is invalid, please contact your bank. When I contact the bank, they say that I need to talk to Moneydance.
Jessica, I hope that this makes sense, I am not really computer literate. I have been many years on a PC using Quicken, and I am just now changing over to a Mac and Moneydance, and it is quiet confusing.
Thanks for any help you might give,
Joe Regenhardt

Hi Joe,
Many financial institutions will require you to enable your accounts for application-based online banking. You can accomplish this by asking your bank to set up your account for direct connections from Quicken. Moneydance uses exactly the same OFX server connection protocol as Quicken but your bank representative may not know this and mistakenly believe that you can not connect in Moneydance. Calling up your bank and stating precisely the following should get you started. "Please enable direct connect on my account such that I can connect to your servers directly with Quicken. Also give me the login credentials I need to connect Quicken to this service."
Application-based online banking often requires a different login/PIN than the ones that are used for ATM or web-based banking. When you enable your account for access from Moneydance or Quicken, your financial institution should let you know what customer ID/login and PIN to use.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thanks for your interest in Moneydance!

Somehow in setting up my accounts with US Bank PFM Direct Connect My Base Account no has the same name as my Checking account and I am unable to download anything.

Bradley,
This is almost certainly a mapping issue. When setting up a direct connection you will see several screens. First you'll select the bank you want to connect with. Then you'll screen where you select the Moneydance account you are setting up (see Account Mapping screenshot 1). Then a box will pop up asking you to enter your user name and password. After you do this, it will take you back to screenshot one which offers you a next option. This is a bit confusing- what is actually happening is that Moneydance is talking to your bank's server, and you should NOT be clicking next from the screenshot 1 interface. You will wait a few moments and then a box will pop up asking you which of your online accounts you want to connect with the Moneydance account you have selected (See account mapping screenshot 2).
I hope this helps, I personally have several accounts at one bank and Moneydance deals with them appropriately when I went through the process above, AND I recognize it is confusing. We are working on improving this interface for future versions of Moneydance.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Jessica,
I am sorry that I have been so long in getting back to you, but I have been struggling with U.S. Bank, trying to get connected for the on line banking. They are telling me that the problem is with Moneydance. When I try to download my accounts, I keep getting the message that the ID or Pin number is not valid. We have verified that the pin number and the password are correct. The Bank says that the software should be giving me a screen that allows me to change the password and pin number the first time, but I am not getting that screen.
Any help you can give would be appreciated, and if it is not going to work, can I get my money back from Moneydance.

Hi Joe,
You should try disabling and re-enabling your connection to US Bank to see if your new password takes. To do so, you can follow these steps:
1) Select your bank account in Moneydance
2) Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu
3) Click the "Disable" button. If you don't see a disable button, continue to step 5.
4) Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu (again)
5) Click the "New Connection" button and select your bank and hit OK
6) Continue with the setup process, entering your username/password. There should be a step for resetting your initial PIN during the setup.
7) Repeat steps 1-6 for any additional accounts
Make sure you pick new connection, even though your bank is still one of the connection choices after you disable it. Choosing your bank from the list of available banks will force Moneydance to download the updated information, which should then allow you to connect.
Please let me know if you continue to have connection problems after recreating your connection.

Hi Joe,
This is a known bug that will be fixed in the next release of Moneydance, which we hope to have out very soon. In the meantime, if you try resubmitting your payment, it should eventually go through. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, and I'll let you know when the new version is released.

Jessica,
I too have just migrated from Quicken and all of my main accounts are with US Bank. I must get this connection to work in order to stay with Moneydance. It appears "Joe" was successful with you in getting the download connection to work. US Bank also told me it was a MD issue and that our online ID and pswd should work, but it does not. I have been using the auto download via Quicken for years but can't get the online update to work via MD. Help! I was able to set up all of my other accounts at the various institutions.
Thank you,
Cindy

Moneydance willonly allow setup to connect to US Bank using US Bank PFM Direct Connect. I am unable to use this to download from US Bank. I have to use US Bank .com. MD does no have this alternative so I am back to Quicken 2011

Per US Bank:
Direct Connect — If you use Quicken online to automatically update your financial information, the first two months are free and then the following fees apply:

Interesting.
I have been downloading via Quicken at no charge since 2008. What I want to know and understand after reading all of the problems with incompatability with MD/US Bank, is has anyone successfully achieved downloads on MD from US Bank? I certainly don't want to pay that monthly fee and find that in fact it does NOT work. I have many accounts, both business and personal. I signed up with MD because I believe it is a better program, has excellent customer service and is written by people in the accounting field. However manually downloading transactions daily or even weekly is not a realistic option for me.
'Jessica/MD seemed to be able to help 'Joe' (see above correspondences).
HAS ANYONE OUT THERE SUCCESSFULLY BEEN ABLE TO DOWNLOAD VIA US BANK? MONEY DANCE, PLEASE HELP!

Hi Cindy,
There are two methods that personal finance software can use to access your accounts: direct connect and web connect. With web connect, the software basically connects to your bank's website and downloads and imports OFX, QFX, QIF, and OFC files automatically. Direct connect actually connects to a server at your bank instead of their website and usually requires different login credentials than you would use to log into your banks website. Moneydance currently only supports automatic connections through direct connect, though we hope to add web connect support in the near future.
Since US Bank appears to offer the first two months of direct connect for free, you could sign up to test it out with Moneydance. If you have trouble with it, you can just cancel your direct connect access before they begin to charge you for it.

Hi Cindy,
Yes, I have successfully been using MD with direct connect to U.S. Bank since converting from MS Money back in January. It works perfectly. I also do bill pay via MD, so the fee is $5.95/month. Wish it was free, but most if not all banks have a charge for doing direct-connect to financial software (using MS Money or quicken was the same fee). The other option of course is to just login to the US Bank website and download the file, but it is worth the $5.95 to me to have that be automated.

lmatch, thanks for the info. This is quite illuminating. Also, Cindy, thanks for the clarification on the types of bank connection.

I am interested in switching to Moneydance from Quicken 2011 but you do not
allow access to Quicken via email connection to my bank via US Bank Direct
Connect. I am unable to do that because my wife ha a separate MasterCard
and I use a US Bank VISA Card. I you ever change the access method I would
be interested.
