Can I switch using a xml file
I am looking to switch away from Money, and am considering either your product,or AceMoney. Having had a quick look at the trial versions, I prefer the Moneydance application.
BUT.....I have over 50 different accounts, and saving each one from Money as a gif file, and then importing each into the new application will be exceedingly tiresome.
AceMoney have an option that allows me to create a xml file from Money, and to then import that file - one for banking, one for investments and one for scheduled transactions. Thus, much easier that 50+ different qif files!!
Looking through your faq sections, I see reference to migrating to Moneydance from Wesabe using xml file to import. Would I be able to use that same method to import the xml files that I could create from Microsoft Money please???
Or any other way to import into Moneydance that would avoid over 50 separate files please??
Thanks for your assistance.

Derek,
Even though Money does not let you turn your whole accounting system into one qif file, the format is capable of containing all your accounts. Do you know if AceMoney supports exporting eveything as a QIF?
Otherrwise, it is not possible to import XML files from Acemoney.
One option to consider is if you know someone with Quicken, you can use quicken to open your Money file and then export it as a QIF from there.
Hope this helps, thanks for your interest in Moneydance,

Jon, Thanks for your response.
But, What I need to do is to export from Microsoft Money.
(My reference to Ace was merely that they can accept an easy export from Money using xml files.)
I am wonder if Moneydance can accept xml files from Microsoft Money in a similar manner - perhaps using the Wesave processs??
Regards, Derek

Jon,
Thanks for getting back.
But what I need to do is to export from Microsoft Money to Moneydance.
My reference to AceMoney was merely that they offer an easy export process by using xml files. I am wondering if Moneydance could offer a similar process - perhaps by using the Wesave process???
I need to decide whether to purchase Moneydance; or whether to purchase AceMoney. My preference is Moneydance, as long as the export process is relatively simple.
Thanks for the comment re Quicken - I will make some enquiries around my colleagues etc. But if that proves to be negative, then can I export to Moneydance from Microsoft Money via a xml file????
Regards

It is not possible to import an XML file from MS Money into Moneydance. The Wesabe XML file is not in the same format as an XML file from MS Money.
Currently the only way to get data from MS Money to Moneydance is to export each account to a QIF and then import those files into Moneydance. It is quite a lengthy process if you have a large number of accounts.

Having successfully imported a large number of accounts several years ago, I want to emphasize that even though it may take a few hours, it is well worth the process. If done systematically using the format spelled out on this forum as well as in the help file chapter on importing from Money, in my experience, it will be a smooth transition.

Thanks for the prompt and clear response. Appreciated.
I have already tried the AceMoney process for generating xml files from MicrosoftMoney - 3 files, one for Banking, one for Investments, and one for scheduled actions. It proved to be easy following the detailed instructions from their website, and exporting them into AceMoney was also easy. (I currently just have their 30-day evaluation application) So, for anyone with a large number of accounts that they wish to migrate from Money, this is an easy option, and seems to work OK.
So this could be an opportunity that Moneydance is missing out on - but I guess that I have no idea as to how "small" this opportunity may be. I may well be a very small minority of customer need.
But, thanks for getting back in a timely, clear and concise manner. Maybe not the answer that I was hoping for - but it has saved me spending a lot of time messing around. I need to trying using both Moneydance and AceMoney a little more in "trial" mode, but it is likely that I will opt for AceMoney as my future application - just based upon this ease of transfer.
Best regards

Does AceMoney have an export option to QIF such that you could import your xml files to AceMoney and then export all the data from AceMoney to a single QIF file. If so you could import that single QIF into Moneydance.
