Support in UK
I am based in UK and thinking of switching from Quicken 2004 (UK
version) to Moneydance Under Windows 7 (64 bit)
Does Moneydance have UK support?
Can I import past data in a QIF file for certain of my accounts -
export from Quicken as QIF?
Can i export my data into Excel for certain sorts of further
financial manipulation?
Is there a brochure which i can print with all the features of
Moneydance?
Thanks
Warren

Our support is online. Moneydance does work on Windows 7 (64).
Here is our faq on migrating from Quicken : http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-from-quicken-or-ms-money/...
and http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-from-quicken-or-ms-money/...
You can also export accounts in tab delineated form to open in a spreadsheet.
Here is the Moneydance user guide to look through: http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/documentation/documentation
You can download the program and test drive it. The first 100 transactions are free before you need to register. Download the program form here: http://moneydance.com/other

Tom,
Thanks for your reply. I have read the FAQ and other documentation which has answered some of my questions. I have a few others, please:
My use of Money Dance: To keep about 12 bank accounts for personal use and also for my small 1 man consulting business: I am based in UK.
1 Does MD support the concept of a cost centre with sub-groups?
2 Can I allocate expenses to a client/project?
3 Can I get a list of all non-billed expenses by client?
4 When I issue an invoice to a client will MD show only those expenses items that were allocated to that client/project to be included in the invoice?
5 When I issue an invoice to a client can I select which expenses (shown on the list in 4 above) will be included in that particular invoice?
6 All my bank accounts and credit cards are with NatWest Bank which supports OFX file transfer. I do not see NatWest Bank on your list of supported banks. Is that a problem?
7 My current version of Quicken 2004 (UK) uses about 4 files (.QDF, .QEL, .QPH, .IDX) which together make up the data file. What is the file structure that MD uses?
8 As I currently do for my Quicken set up, I will be storing my MD data files on a NAS in a separate folder/share on a NAS. There is only 1 user (me). Will MD work over a local network with data files not on the same PC as the application?
9 Does MD support ‘auto reconcile’ of a bank account once I have completed a download of transactions from my bank and checked them as OK?
10 I think I saw that MD does support memorised transactions. Please confirm I read this correctly?
11 Can MD produce a P&L report
If we can resolve the above questions, I will download a trial version which will allow 100 manually entered transactions and unlimited downloads. This will allow me to take my testing to the next stage.
Kind regards
Warren

Hello Warren,
1 Does MD support the concept of a cost centre with sub-groups?
2 Can I allocate expenses to a client/project?
3 Can I get a list of all non-billed expenses by client?
4 When I issue an invoice to a client will MD show only those expenses items that were allocated to that client/project to be included in the invoice?
5 When I issue an invoice to a client can I select which expenses (shown on the list in 4 above) will be included in that particular invoice?
In response to all of the above questions, Moneydance is designed for personal finance use. It does not support most business functions, such as invoicing and billing. Some small business owners use Moneydance, but most business functions are either not possible or need complex workarounds. For example, you may be able to set up your separate clients as liability accounts to track expenses, but I imagine this will be cumbersome.
6 All my bank accounts and credit cards are with NatWest Bank which supports OFX file transfer. I do not see NatWest Bank on your list of supported banks. Is that a problem?
While NatWest may support file downloads in the OFX format, they do not have a direct OFX server, which is what allows Moneydance and other personal finance software to connect to banks.
7 My current version of Quicken 2004 (UK) uses about 4 files (.QDF, .QEL, .QPH, .IDX) which together make up the data file. What is the file structure that MD uses?
Moneydance uses its own file structure, saving your data in a .MD file format.
8 As I currently do for my Quicken set up, I will be storing my MD data files on a NAS in a separate folder/share on a NAS. There is only 1 user (me). Will MD work over a local network with data files not on the same PC as the application?
You can share your data file on your NAS. The one warning is that you must not open the same data file at the same time on both machines. If you do the last machine to save will overwrite the changes made by the other. Just as if you were both editing the same MS Word document on two machines.
You will need to have Moneydance installed on any machine that you want to open your data file on. Since this is for personal use, you will only need to purchase one license key, which will work on all installs of Moneydance.
9 Does MD support ‘auto reconcile’ of a bank account once I have completed a download of transactions from my bank and checked them as OK?
I don't know what you mean by "auto reconcile." You can reconcile an account at any time by choosing Account -> Reconcile from the menu bar. You can also change a setting in your preferences to automatically mark a transaction as reconciled when you clear that transaction from a bank or file download.
10 I think I saw that MD does support memorised transactions. Please confirm I read this correctly?
Yes, you can set up "reminders" that auto-commit transactions at specific dates and intervals.
11 Can MD produce a P&L report
Moneydance can produce an income and expenses report.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Hi Ethan,
Thanks for your email and all the clarifications which I appreciate.
I think MoneyDance may not meet my needs.
I will try another option.
Best wishes,
Warren
