Quicken vs. Moneydance categories

I've successfully transferred my Quicken account info but I noticed that there seemed to be some duplication of categories between the two programs (e.g. Interest Income and Interest Inc). I've cleaned up the transactions and eliminated duplicate categories that I use in my bank accounts and credit cards, but I'm having a little more difficulty doing so in my investment account. I want to be sure that I'm using MD to its full extent and re-assign/delete any duplicate Quicken categories, but I'm not entirely sure which are which. There is an entire section of investment related categories grouped together at the very end of the Categories list, differentiated by a bullet point in front of the first letter; some, but not all, of these categories (e.g. Div Inc) have duplicates elsewhere in the list. I think that the bulleted categories are from MD and the others from Quicken, but is there any list somewhere of the MD categories that I can use for comparison?

I ran into that too. :)

I ended up creating a new blank Moneydance file and then looking at the categories it had. Unfortunately I am not at a computer with Moneydance installed so I can't tell you what I found.

    Hi lastudioteacher,

As tod suggests, create a new blank Moneydance data file. File > New...

In the new data file, from the Menu bar, go to 'Tools' > 'Categories'.
The 'Edit Categories' window will open displaying the default Moneydance Catagories. Look to the lower left-hand corner of the 'Edit Catagories' window for the 'Print' button to print out a hard copy to compare with your original data file.
