COMPARISON OF FEATURES
I am currently in the process of migrating from a PC with Windows XP and Quicken Home and Business 2009 to a new iMac. I do not want to run Windows on the iMac!
I have been a Quicken user since 1993 and use a .qif file that contains data back to 1995. I use Quicken to track and reconcile one checking account, 2 active credit accounts, a cash account and a number of investment accounts, all of which are at Schwab. I also budget, track my investments, and attempt to maintain a comprehensive handle on our net worth, including the value of our home and 2 cars. I'm willing to drop the business functions as well as our pre-2000 data, if necessary.
Having read a number of negative pre-release reports about
Quicken Essentials 2010 for the Mac, I am increasingly
disenchanted.
Talk to me about Moneydance 2010 vs. Quicken 2010 and what I will lose during the data conversion:
Quicken for Windows business accounts:
+ Invoices OK + Accounts Receivable OK
The rest really isn't:
Online banking information such as account setup information,
Online Payees, and online payment instructions
Scheduled Transactions
QuickFill (memorized) Transactions
Saved or memorized reports
Security price history
Certain types of investment transactions, like various misc.
transactions and cash transfers requiring multiple manual entrees
before completing the data transfer.
I'm leaning toward Moneydance and hope you can put my mind at ease.

Tad,
One way I would like to put your mind at ease is to let you know that you can try Moneydance for free before deciding if you would like to buy our program. Some of the things you are dissatisfied with we do better (or at least in a simpler and cleaner way), and some we don't. I can tell you that reminders don't transfer with the QIF export/import process, but I also feel our scheduled transactions, reminders, and memorizing transactions are better than Quicken's, in my personal experience.

I encourage you to download our free trial version and experiment with the program before your decide if you would like to purchase it. The demo version is fully-functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited. If you decide to purchase the program at a later date you can keep all your data, the license key simply unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions. Thank you very much for you suggestions. I have now added the option of running my existing Quicken application using Parallels Desktop 5.
I'll look very hard at all 3 options before leaping. Having the trial is helpful.

another thing to think about. Intuit is sunsetting their older versions. Quicken 2007 is set to end their online banking feature in April. That's why I'm switching. I've been a longtime Quicken user. Lately I've been running Quicken 2007 on Linux via Crossover (similar 2 your MAC/Parallells setup), but I'm tired of the forced upgrades every few years.

After looking very hard at the Parallels/Windows XP/Quicken Home and Business configuration, it looks to much like what I am trying to get away from. I'm hoping the final User Guide will be available soon. I will probably play around with a trial version in the interim. Expense coding and reporting are really important to me for both budgeting and tax preparation.
