Have new iMac i7. Will your programs run on the i7 processor? Can I pick up old accounts from quicken and install on Money Dance. What kind of problems can I expect from Money Dance..... will be changing about 12 different accounts and don't need any more BS like I have from Quicken.

    Hi LT

The i7 processor runs a standard instruction set. Moneydance will run just fine on it. You can export your quicken data to a qif file and then import that file into Moneydance. Here is a link to an article describing the process:

    Ben...........

I have been trying to use Moneydance for several weeks now...... It does not run just fine on this i7 iMac.
    1. I takes way too many key strokes to do anything.
    2. I does not accept the new entry every time. You never know whether it accepted an entry or not , till you go on to the next entry and then go back and check the previous entry. About 50% of the time one will have to be reentered for the second or sometimes third time before it will stay in the register. It's a hell of a mess.
    3. The auto entry does not work every time. It seems to be case sensitive some times and some times not. I have changed the settings in set up several times.
    4. Too many key strokes are necessary to get an item accepted in the register or to go on to the next entry.
    5. No manual
    6. The best thing I can say about Moneydancer is that it finally worked with my Bank. Quicken quit working with the bank software and after two years of fussing with the bank, intuit, the third party writer of the bank software I was changin banks........... about 15 accounts...... till I found Moneydance. It does work with the bank .................... but, what a pain in the ass to use !!!

If you have any suggestions on what is happening or what I might be doing wrong, please let me know. If you will send a phone number, I will spring for the call.

    Thanks,

    Hi Larry

I am sorry you are havng a hard time with Moneydance. You can download the very nearly finished MD2010 manual from the following link:

    http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/md2010-beta/60-almost-fina...

With regard to transactions not taking when you enter them, it is necessary to press the enter key on your keyboard to apply a new transaction to the register. When you do this you should hear the 'cha-ching' sound to indicate that the transaction has been posted. It might be that you are not saving your data file when you are closing the program. I recomed setting the "Save on every quit" option. it is under File->Preferences->General

When entering a new transaction the most straight forward work flow is to press the tab key to navigate through the fields of a new transaction from left to right. The auto-complete on the description field requires that the first two characters be entered before it will offer a suggestion.

If you would like a refund on your purchase let me know and I will authorize one for you.

    Sincerely

    Ben Spencer

    Bob............

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

After you fill out a transaction and press the enter key, something usually happens, but it does not necessarily complete the transaction as it should !!!

When I hit the enter key I hear the "cha-ching" and the program sometimes opens another window at the bottom of the screen for me to move the mouse to, click and then it is entered, then i have to go back up to register, find the next entry and click on that before I can enter the next check. Sometimes you hear the "Cha-ching" and nothing happens. Then if you go on to the next entry, the previous one is only partially filled out and is recorded with blank or incorrect entries. So then, you have to go back and do the previous entry over again.

I try to save the program after every entry. Some times I forget and do two or three entries before I save.

The auto complete seems to be working better...... I think the problem on that was pilot error and the system did not have enough entries at the time to auto complete.

I really don't want a refund..... just some type of checking/banking program that will work.

Have you tried Moneydance on the i7 processor, iMac?

Another thing with this i7 and a "magic mouse" or whatever Apple calls the new wireless mouse....... you have to turn the scroll "with momentum" off are else you are chasing the register up and down the screen. Sometimes it would seem all you have to do is look at the mouse and the screen moves 8-10 lines, sometimes you move several pages.

I have down loaded your manual and I am slowing going through it.

Another question. Among other things that I do, I act as an administrator for estates in the oounty probate courts. At any time I might have 6-12 on going cases. I have used quicken to keep track of these separate bank accounts. Some are very small value, up to a million or so with ranch or farm properties that have to be managed. I would like to use Moneydance for these but the accounts or monies cannot be commingled with my accounts or any of the other estate accounts. They all must be separate. Is this possible with Moneydance? How do you suggest I set them up?

    Ben..............

    From your manual:

    Transaction Tags
You may wish to record some additional information about your transactions, apart from simply the source
and recipient of funds. Transaction tags allow you to organize transactions in a second way, which is
effectively any second way you like - assign transactions any number or variety of tags, like "summer
vacation" or "tax deductible," and these tags can be used to generate more informative reports. Tags can be
added, changed and deleted via the Tools->Edit Transaction Tags menu.

This does not work on the i7.

I have tried to add a tag, go to tools, Edit Transactilon Tags.... click on the +, fill out the new tag close the window, go to tags and it is not in the tag list..... have a tag called Tag or Tag 1. I then try to delete the word tag, but it still shows up in transaction pull down !!! When I go back to edit tags and delete the new tag..... not what I had typed in, but the word tag, it will delete Tag from the edit list but not the transaction pull down list...... so what am I doing wrong?

Still seems like bad code to me !!!

Another thing that is happening, When I put a specific check number in the search box at top right, it may bring up one or two other check that do not have that number, plus the check with that number; none have the same check date....... what's that deal?

    Hi

With regard to the transaction tag entry. When you create a new tag and enter its name it is necessary to press the enter key on your keyboard after entering the name. If you do not the tag get given a default name e.g. tag1.

With regard to the search box. When you enter a number in the search box all fields on all transaction are search for that number not just the check number field. i.e. if you enter 2000 in the search box that will return transactions that have the check number 2000, transactions with an amount of 2000 in the payment field, transactions with the number 2000 in the description or memo and transctions that happoned in the year 2000. If you want to run a more restrictive search select Edit->"Advanced Search". From here you can specify to only search on particular fields.

    Sincerely

    Ben..........

When you are in Transactions, and have a listing of all of last years transactions and need to make corrections to several individual categories...... how do you get to that certain date and category? Is there a way to get to that specific transaction, make the change and then go back to the same transaction listing to make the next correction.

I have tried several things and nothing works,..... double clicking on date or category, dscription or amount. They only thing that seems to work is to write down the check numbers, close out of Transactions, go to the bank listing, search for the check number, then go back to last years Transaction and find the next error. Takes a lot of time to correct.

Is there a simpler way of making corrections in Last Years Transactions ???

    Thanks,

    LT

    Hi

i am not exactly sure I understand your question. If when you say "When you are in Transactions" are are you referring to the result list of transactions in the "Advanced Search" results window? If you are, you can select a transaction in that result list and then click the "Go To Transaction" button at the top of the list.

If you are running a search from the search box in the top right of the main disply then there is a limitation in the current release that prevents you form getting to the actual transaction from the search results. This has been fixed in the latest preview release build (743). You can download the latest preview from the following link:
