Remainding loan payments

I just transferred my file from quicken to moneydance and everything seems to be fine except one thing. When I send a payment to my mortgage company, I always send extra toward my principal and on quicken i can actually see my remaining payments. For example: I can see that I had 150 payments to make. I'll make a payment with extra toward principal and then I'll see that i now have 146 payments left. Can I see that information with moneydance as well?

    Hi Brenda,

Yes, the number of payments remaining is visible in when you view the loan register. You should see that, along with much more information about your loan, in the right-hand sidebar.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance!

I don't have a right hand side bar and can't seem to figure out how to get it. I tried using loan calculator but my loan is existing. So that did not work out for me. Please help.

    Hi Brenda,

The sidebar only shows on the register for Loan-type accounts in Moneydance. Have you set up your loan account in Moneydance? If so, could you send me a screenshot of your account register?

Here is the screenshot. This loan was setup thru quicken and exported to moneydance. There is no right side bar. I appreciate your help as I'm trying to move away from using windows pc. Thank you.

    Hi Brenda,

It appears from your screenshot that you have imported your loan as a liability account, which is why you are not seeing the right side bar that Jess describes. If the transaction data in the account you have appears to have been imported correctly, I would first try creating a new loan account by selecting Account -> New Account from the menu bar and entering in the loan terms. Then, select all the transactions in the liability account, right click on them, select Batch Change -> Account, and select your loan account. This should move all transactions to your loan account. If that account then appears correct, you can delete the liability account.

If that doesn't seem to work, I would try to reimport your loan data from Quicken, but this time ensure you are creating a loan account from the beginning for this account.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Thank you so much!! i actually like the way the information is displayed on moneydance much better than quicken. Thanks again for taking the time to work with me on resolving the issue.
