Drill Down on Reports (like Quicken)
Sorry to use the Q word, but this is probably the biggest (only?) feature that I miss from using Quicken on the PC. From a generated report window in MD, it's possible to double-click on the total for a category and open that category register. But I'd really love to be able to open a window which showed me only the transactions that contributed to the report total.
In quicken this was done by generating a new report (clicking on
a category total would generate a category report that listed only
the transactions which contributed to that total). Clicking on an
individual transaction in a detail report like that would
eventually take you to the register entry for that transaction. I'd
be happy with that kind of functionality in MD also.

Doug,
No worries, the Q word is a bit unavoidable around here! This is a fabulous feature, and one we're absolutely considering for inclusion in future versions of Moneydance. The feature request ticket is attached to this discussion. By posting in this discussion your interest in the ticket has been registered. This is equivalent to voting for it. You will be automatically notified when updates are available on this feature.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Please include this feature. I am currently using both Mint.com and Moneydance. I want desperately to stop using Intuit products like Mint, but Moneydance can't come close to matching the easy reports and budgets that Mint generates.
Specifically, I need a pie chart that only shows main categories (not sub-categories) and allows drill down to sub-categories and finally to the transaction level. I also would like to see a bar graph for income and expense where I can limit the range to see detail even during months with unusually large expenses or income.
Please, look at how Mint.com is set up. Their budget and graphs simple and intuitive. MD could do so much more...

And add to it please the ability to get back to the report without having to start all over again. e.g. search in "home page" gives me the results but if I double click on one transaction to see more detail it takes me to that register - so far so good. Except that if I want to get back to the report because I want to se the detail of a different line item --- I have to run the search again (and then remember which one I didn't want to see - try that six or so times and see if you can remember which ones were which!!)

@jontyreason, to get back to the report from the transaction detail go to the Window menu and select the report name.

but if the report is a search from Home Page then there is no report name to click on ....!

Drill down would be an important feature to get me to finally take the plunge from Q to MD. Thanks for keeping it on your list.

Yes, this is the ONLY feature that I'd like to see in MoneyDance that is missing in Quicken. I use the Transaction Filter as a way to pseudo do that but just drilling in on the category total would be sooo much easier.

As far as I'm concerned, MD solved this problem: Open up your report and double click on any dollar value. It will bring you to a register showing all the transactions that contributed to that value in the report. (You may have to be using the most current version of MD).
MD, thank you for listening to user feedback and improving your product!

Hi, count me in for this feature as well . JP, not so sure it is implemented - try running report for period specific interval and attempt drill down - version 2011R2 (803) still produces a register of transaction s beyond the time period specified in the report. I think I've got it configured as should be... thanks

andreww is correct clicking on the dollar amount in a report does not drill down to show you the transactions that make up that total. Instead it take you to the expense register in question.

Thanks for confirming Ben, do you guys have an idea when this will be
available. This will produce a product that can be really effective
in analysis, not just reporting.
Thanks Andrew.

I am afraid the I cannot make estimates on if or when a suggestion will be implemented.
