Default description for split transactions
This is a feature request...
Currently, it appears that only the first line item in a split transaction will assume the main transaction's description and all others will default to blank. While I sometimes fill these in with descriptive information, in those cases where I wish to have them all be the same, I think it would be nice for the app to post the main transaction's description to all line items.
For example, if I go to Costco and I break out the purchase into four different categories, only the first one will actually show "Costco" as the description in the categeory ledger and the other three will have a blank description.
I checked the Preferences and did not see anything that appeared to enable what I am asking for.

I am very sorry that you haven't heard from us before now. I think this is a very good suggestion. Our feature request and bug reporting system is integrated with our wiki. We invite our users to register and use these systems to help improve Moneydance by bringing bugs to our attention and requesting new features. Users can also vote on tickets, which helps us determine how wide-spread bugs are and which requests have the most demand.

Brian, I have an issue that from your comment above, belongs on the Feature Request and Bug Reporting System so I clicked on the above link and headed over there to research (and add, since I didn't find it) my issue. I don't have an account there yet since I am new to Money Dance and the "Register" button just gives an error.
I'm not sure you even know this is broken.

A few months ago we moved from the feature request system linked above to a system which is integrated with these forums. Users can now request features in the "Suggestions" areas of the forum, and the support staff will create internal tickets which are linked to the discussion thread. Commenting or "Watching" a thread counts as a vote for the feature requested. I apologize that the message on the Trac site was not clearer, and I will attempt to refine that page to prevent future issues.

On a related note, I am using MD10r3 and am not seeing any descriptions carry over to the splits (not even to the 1st split).
I did notice this item in the MD10r3 release notes:
"Show parent description of splits if split description is blank"
Perhaps I'm miss understanding what this will look like? When I view transaction details on the blank split I do see the parent txn's description.

I suspect that the quote from the release notes is refering to the reporting system. If you run a detailed income and expense report the description shown for splits with blank description is the description of the parent.

There is kind of a workaround now but it is a litle bit of a pain - I basically need to cut and paste each Description entry for all of the split line items except the first one. I would think the desired behavior is to have all line items be the same as the first line item which should match what was typed in the register just prior to creating the split...

The easy ability to enter descriptions in splits is badly needed. The split is clunky and way below the level of the rest of this program. Please fix.

Ditto to the above comment. I do not want to type the descriptor over and over in splits. This is absolutely necessary to avoid overworking your customers. Something like this should be at the top of your list.
