Keeping application open

Is there any way I can keep Moneydance open so that it does not have to go through the full boot-up process each time I open a file. I know I can minimize into the right side of the dock but I can't do that every time I want to close a file. A command W shortcut quits the application instead of just closing the current window.

Thanks,

Richard

p.s. I switched from Quicken as of 1/1/11 and am very pleased with the application [after having tried all the others].

    Richard,
Hi Richard. Unfortunately, there is not a way to do this. Moneydance currently has to have an open file in order to be open.
If there is security concern you have about having open files the only solution I could offer is to have a blank file open when you have it minimized but I realize this is not exactly the ideal solution.
Please let us know if you have any more questions.
    Sincerely,

Actually, that doesn't quite work. Each time you open a file and minimize, it places a round greenM icon in the right side of the Dock. So if you always minimize then you would accumulate an infinite number of icons; as soon as you close any file, all the icons disappear [even if you use CommandW and not CommandQ]. So you are back with Moneydance closed. Am I the only one who finds this time consuming? Could it be changed in a future upgrade? Thanks for listening. Richard

    Hi Richard,
I found a fairly old suggestion ticket on this topic. Part of the reason that Moneydance does what it is currently doing is because it is cross-platform, in this case, it is operating according to what one would expect in Linux and Windows (you close a window the program closes)
The lead developer wrote on this ticket that he is sympathetic with the idea of having MD look more like a native mac application when its on a mac, but that it is not high priority compared to bug fixes and so on.
I've attached this suggestion ticket to this thread. By commenting on this thread it counts as a vote. If your okay with switching this conversation to the publicly viewable forum then that may help to get more support for this feature.
    Sincerely,

Jon: I recognize that this is probably not a high priority, and don't know how Lion will impact the application, but having tried all the other main financial application rivals to Moneydance, I think a more Mac focused application might just deliver a loyal following from the growing number of Mac users.

Jon: I'm sorry, I never answered your request to switch this to the public viewable forum. Please do. Someone may have a workaround. Thanks, Richard

As of now this feature has not been implemented. I have made this conversation thread public as requested.
