    Hi JAYO,

Can you attach a small sampling of a TDA .CSV file so that we can see how it's set up. Maybe then we can tell you what you'll need to do. Open the .CSV file and make sure that there is no sensitive data in it before attaching it.

FYI, TD Ameritrade is one of the financial institutions that Moneydance supports for direct-connect OFX downloads.

I tried the direct connect, it does not work, it imports information from the wrong account and doesn't import all of the transactions in the account. as far as the csv goes, it is just the standard csv you download from TDA. I have attached a sample.

I am afraid Moneydance doesn't support importing csv file into investment accounts.

There has to be a way to convert the file from csv to an acceptable format. Only things I could find on google worked for pc and not macs. It would be nice if the direct connect would just work as advertised.

    Hi Jay,

When you describe your direct connect as importing into the wrong account, that sounds like a mapping problem. Your accounts are not mapped properly (in other words, one account is pointing to each of your Moneydance accounts). If you'd like to try again with direct connect, this is fairly straight-forward to fix.

First, disable the Online Set-up for the problem accounts. Then you will need to re-enable them. Once you have entered your ID and Password click Ok and wait (do not click next). You need to see a window that will display - Please choose the account you wish to use - which are your accounts listed in a drop down list. If you bypass this window - your Moneydance Account will map to the first account on this list. Sometimes you will need to just wait for this window to pop-up as it can take several seconds.

If this does not resolve your issue, please let me know, and we'll keep troubleshooting.

Jessica, when i say wrong account what i meant was when i gave it my username and password for my regular stock account it imported the information for my IRA account from TD. Also it still didn't get all of the information so the balance was off. Is there not a way to just take the csv file and convert it to a file type that can be imported?

    Hi Jay,

When you use direct connect from TD Ameritrade, does it import any of your stock information or only your IRA information? Have you contact TD Ameritrade about it not exporting your data?

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to import a CSV into a Moneydance investment account. There are utilities to convert CSV to QIF, which could then be imported into a Moneydance investment account, however none of them are good enough to recommend, which is partly due to financial institutions not standardizing on their CSV data exports (they're all different).

I'm sorry I don't have better news for you, but I do wonder if this is an issue on TD Ameritrade's side of not exporting your stock account via direct connect. Maybe a call to them could fix it? They likely will say that they don't support Moneydance if you ask them about it specifically, but if you don't mention it and ask about whether your stocks account is being exported via direct connect you may be able to determine if there's a configuration error on their end.

when i put in the username and password for my regular trading account it only imports a portion of the information from my IRA account. When I put in the sign in name and password for my IRA account it imports a portion of my IRA account but not the all the account info.

Most financial institutions only provide a couple of months of transaction history through direct connections. If you are only getting a couple of months of transactions this is unfortunately a limitation of the institution you are downloading from.
