MD Support Staff,

Some initial observations regarding the Moneydance User Guide v2.0...

Pg. 14, Transaction Fields, Check#, The instructions should read 'Account > Edit Account'.
Pg. 14, Transaction Fields, Rate, 'see International Currencies' There is no section titled 'International Currencies' in the Guide.
Pg. 17, Using Batch Change, The first sentence is inconsistent. It should read, 'Right-clicking (CTRL-clicking for Macs) one or more selected transactions will bring up a context menu providing functions that can be applied to the selected transaction(s).
Pg. 24, The Matching and Confirmation Process, the words 'will appear' are missing from the first sentence.
Pg. 24, Automatically mark Confirmed transactions as cleared, In the first sentance, there should be a comma (not a period) after the word 'cleared'. The words, 'To do this' are redundant and should be removed.
Pg. 30, Just above 'Manually Applying Reminders. There is an errant lower-case 't' before the word 'ANY'.
Pg. 41, Creating a Security, Although obivous, there should still be a blurb next to 'Security Name'.
Pg. 48, Moneydance Approved Extensions. In the second sentence, the word 'developer' should be 'developed'.
Pg. 55, The File Menu, Open. It's not necessary to rename a backup file with a .md extension when opening it with Moneydance's Open Menu.
Pg. 56, Tools Menu. VAT/GST. The instructions 'Select Moneydance > Preferences > General and check the 'Use VAT/GST option' should be changed to include the Windows File Menu. Perhaps 'Select File / Moneydance > Preferences > General...'.
Pg. 58, Setting up VAT/GST. Same issue as on Pg. 56.
Pg. 59, About 1/3 the way down the page the word QIF 'fill' should be change to QIF 'file'.
Pg. 61, Step 11. 'Batch Change Tool' is a dead link.

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the notes! I've forwarded this to Angie, who's been the main one working on documentation.

    Kevin,

No way would I get mad, this is really helpful stuff :) I want to make the guide as good as possible (and have some great ideas for a more intuitive format for the next release but we'll see if I get around to it).

In fact, I just created our VERY FIRST video tutorial (still in the approval stages) to help ppl set up the new iOS app. I'm eager to make more- so if you could request short (1-3 minute) video tutorials on any of Moneydance's features what would they be? What's hardest to wrap your head around on paper, but easy when you see it on the screen?

Input from other users is welcome as well- you all know best what the sticking points were/are when getting started.

The new guide with edits likely won't be out for a few weeks, but they're now in my queue.

Thanks for your suggestions and help,

    Hi Angie,

The issue of improper 'mapping' still rears it's ugly head once in a while in the forums.

I think that a useful video tutorial would be of showing the steps necessary to set up online banking. Specifically pointing out the 'What not to do' so as to avoid having the account end up improperly mapped.

If I remember correctly, there was a bug ticket created to prevent the user from clicking through and bypassing the important account selection step.

Regardless of whether the ticket was implemented or not, I think that a video of the online banking setup routine would be helpful.

    Hi Angie,
I was helping forum member Nancy Simmons with entering her license key to unlock the trial restrictions.

I had suggest that she Paste the license key into the Register Moneydance field so as to avoid typos using key-combo CTRL-V.

So as to avoid the issues that Nancy encountered, perhaps there should be some mention of this method in the 'Registering Moneydance' section on Pg. 5 of the MDUG.

    Kevin,

Thanks for all these suggestions, I've implemented them all as I'm currently updated the guide with instructions for using the new iPhone app (hooray), which we hope will be released tomorrow (as will the updated user guide). In conjunction with the new app, I've created our VERY FIRST video tutorial- setting up online banking seems like a GREAT topic for our second.

Thanks as always for being part of the awesome Moneydance community, it's my favorite part of this job!
