It would be nice to set a both a default category for expenses and income.

If I understand you correctly you are entering a transaction directly in an expense account and you like to have the default category be something like a bank account. Is that correct?

Generally speaking we do not encourage people to be editing their expense and income accounts directly as the vast majority of people fail to understand that everything is reversed from that perspective.

    Example:

I have an account where the default category is Transfer:In. When I download trans actions from my bank the category is by default set to Transfer:In even if it is a withdrawal.

In this example I would want the default Income category to be Transfer:In and the default expense category to be Transfer:Out.
