Auto downloading, budget rollover, etc

Hello,

I'd like to add my vote to some previous requests for features. These include budget rollover (for individual categories) and (not so important for me) locks/warnings when working from one location and the other location is being updated. I would really appreciate an answer if the rollover will be implemented any time soon, it would save the effort of creating workarounds.

Another feature I'd like to request I called "auto downloading" but here is a functionality/ usecase description: I use my home laptop (2011r2, build 803, WinXP) plus Handy Bank on two Android phones (dropbox sync). I travel a lot and take only my work laptop. What I would like to happen is at home my accounts to be downloaded daily or at some frequency, and I can monitor the budget and accounts via HandyBank. An alternative would be for me to be able to prompt the download from HandyBank, but I see more problems with that, one of which being that the feature would need to be implemented on both sides.

Another somewhat related bit of help would be to be able to log in only once per bank. Currently I have several accounts at the same bank, and although I created an overall account for the bank and made the individual ones children, I am still asked to provide the password individually for each account. I don't know if this is already possible and I have a wrong configuration, but nothing so far worked.

Thank you.

    Catalina,
You stated, "What I would like to happen is at home my accounts to be downloaded daily or at some frequency, and I can monitor the budget and accounts via HandyBank."

Response: Problem with that scenario is that you would have to have Moneydance running continuously while you are away. Unlike Quicken, that warehouses your information, Moneydance does not.

As to your last paragraph. Each account ought to have been setup at your Financial Institution with separate login credentials. Your Financial Institution is actually requesting your username and password for each account, not Moneydance.

    Catalina,
Hi, I've added your vote to the ticket for budget roll-overs. I can imagine a scenario wherein we could make it such that Moneydance auto-downloads account data but it'd be a rather complex implementation and it is not likely that we will pursue this in the near future.
Regarding passwords for your financial institution, if you go to File -> Encryption, you can set up a password for your entire Moneydance account and once you have done that, Moneydance will store your passwords for your bank accounts for you. Be careful though, there is no way to access the password if you forget it.
Please let us know if you have any more questions.
    Sincerely,
    Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Thank you for all of the good input. I have indeed implemented the encription path which meets my needs pretty well.
On the auto/ repeated sync I will probably work it out via dropbox as well, although of course I'll have ti download MD on my work laptop. This is not as much as an issue as making the work laptop my main financial data repository, so I'll work with that.
Thanks for adding my vote to the rollover feature. This discussion can be closed from my point of view.
    Regards, Catalina
