Deleting Memorized Transactions

Hi all,

Is there a way to selectively delete the memorized transactions used to auto-fill when creating a new transaction?

I'm making the move from a PC to a MAC and I've narrowed down the financial software I'm going use to Moneydance and My Money. I've been using an ancient version of Quicken (Win 95!) and it had a list of memorized transactions where you could delete individual memorized transactions. I find it helpful to get rid of the outdated and one-off transactions that clutter up them memorized transactions over time.

Thanks.

Jim

Good question. I've often wondered the same thing, but never cared enough to track down the answer.

I am afraid that moneydance does not have a feature that would allow you to do this. moneydance dynamically creates this information by looking in the register each time you enter a transaction. It is not stored in an independent location.

I am sorry I haven't responded sooner we have been unusually busy and some cases have sliped through the cracks.

    Sincerely

This inability to edit or remove memorized transactions is a major pain in the neck. I have one that pops up every two weeks using the wrong account, so eery two weeks I have to go in and delete it. I hope this will be corrected in a future update. I am currently using 2010 r3. Thanks.

    Hi Bruce,
I created a suggestion ticket and attached it to this thread. Commenting on this thread counts as a vote in favor of implementation.

I haven't run into this problem, yet, but remember that you could delete memorized transactions in quicken and used it as needed so would like to see it implemented here.

I add my vote. I edit the QuickFill list frequently in Quicken Mac 2007 for entries that I don't want to auto-fill.

Please do implement a way to edit memorized transactions. I enter credit card payment transaction, typically twice each month, each of which may have a dozen or more splits. It is a royal pain to delete and work around the incorrectly filled-in splits from the previous payment. I just chose to buy Moneydance in preference to a competing product, and if I had realized this problem existed I definitely would have chosen the competitor!

If you can't edit the memorized transactions because of their structure, PLEASE at least provide an option to TURN OFF THEIR AUTOMATIC USE! That shouldn't take much programming at all.

Yes - a feature to turn on/off memorized transactions auto-fill and delete unwanted memorized transactions would be very very helpful. Please add my vote.

Please solve this soon. My calendar has become useless because I've inadvertently saved too many transactions.

Is this fixed yet? Can you delete a memorized description and transaction?

Is there a way yet to delete memorized transactions, or is this capability coming soon? When I download transactions from my bank, all these payees get memorized, and none of them are payee names I want in my register. Need the ability to edit the list of memorized transaction.

    boaz_9:

Memorized transactions in MD are merely existing transactions in your register. When you enter a new transaction, if MD sees a transaction with that same payee (or "description" as MD labels it) in the account, MD will attempt to autofill the rest of that new transaction with the one it found in your register - the memorized transaction. If there are multiple transactions from that payee, I believe it takes most recent "memorized" transaction in the register it finds.

Therefore, you can't edit the memorized list because that list is, in essence, the transactions in your register. But you are saying that you download transactions from your bank and don't want those downloaded payee names in your register or your memorized list. Well, if you change the payee names once you download them, or merge them with already existing transactions in your register using the matching process of MD, then not only will your downloaded payee names not be in your register anymore, but they won't be in your memorized list either. This should solve your problem assuming I am understanding it correctly.

I was going to post regarding this issue when I found this thread. My issue is a variation of the above discussion.

My problem is that I download credit card transactions, and one is a supermarket. So the category is usually Groceries. But at one point it was for a different category, Repay, which I did change the category to - I don't recall where I made that change. MD insists on presenting the Repay category as the Current Transaction even though all of the other Similar Payees presented list Groceries. I thought I had edited the downloaded transaction in every possible location to get MD to modify the Current Transaction it presents, but apparently have not.

So where can I input the correct information so that MD presents Groceries as the correct [most recent?] Category? If it does it behind the scenes, I need to know how it decides, since apparently I cannot edit the list [too bad].

After reading through this thread again, it seems I may be asking the wrong question. It sounds like the program is indeed reading the entire register looking for matches, every time I begin typing in a new transaction. If that's the case, perhaps an option could be added to manually maintain a list of memorized transactions. This is what does, and it seems like a much more useful mechanism. That way I could add transactions to the list of suggested (memorized) transactions, and delete ones I didn't want anymore. This would make the list of suggestions much more manageable, and useful.

It looks like this capability was first requested back in November 2009. Are there any plans to add this to the product?

I am just learning how to categorize my transactions and I have been memorizing several of them. NOW I WILL STOP UNTIL I CAN BE SURE THAT THEY CAN BE REMOVED IF NECESSARY.
I would like MD to recognize the description of the transaction and enter a memorized category (even if the $ amount is different than a previous transaction). I do not want every element of the transaction to be memorized every time. Another way of putting it is, I would like to be able to specify which parts of the transaction to memorize.
Since this thread was originally started in 2009 and it is now 2012, can someone comment on how this works in the latest version of MD?
    Thanks

I believe there is some confusion of terms here.

Memorising a transaction in Moneydance has nothing to do with the auto-assigning of categories on transaction that you download. Right clicking on a transaction and selecting memorise will creates a transaction reminder for this transaction. A transaction reminder is a way of creating repeating transactions at specified intervals. You can delete transaction reminders by selecting Tools->Transaction Reminder...

The auto assigning of categories to downloaded transactions is a completely automatic process that uses the entire history of the register to select the best matching category for the downloaded transaction.

The auto complete of transactions when entering a transaction manually also uses the entire history of the register to complete the transaction if you enter a description that is exactly the same a prior one.
