TXF Export Extension - Does it work?
I downloaded and installed the TXF extension. I went through and mapped several categories to corresponding tax categories. This included medical, income, mortgage, tax withholding's etc.
When I ran the txf export, the resulting file only showed medical,(and I am not sure that it showed all of that category). I went back to see that the other categories were mapped, and they are.
Does this extension do more than medical?

Hi Randy
We recognize that the TXF Export extension interface is horrible. The extension is in beta and has not been worked on for for a while due to lack of interest by users. It is possible that the mapping interface is causing confusion. It certainly confused me when I first tried using it. I just checked in with the developer and they are of the opinion that it does function.
By default when the extension is installed there are already a number of mappings created. Clicking on one of the items in the left hand list will show the item it is mapped to in the right hand list. If you click in the right hand column you can change which item it is mapped to. There should only be one item selected on the left and the right at any one time. Do not use ctrl click to select more than one item at a time.
I recommend uninstalling the extension and installing it again to reset the list of default mappings. And then trying it again.
I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

I just tried this again, with a new install, and clearing out everything. I mapped the charity category, and it exported nothing.
I don't think this extension works too well when you don't take Moneydance's default categories. When I setup my accounts, I chose "minimal categories", because I wanted all my categories from years of Microsoft Money data. So I think my categories are not what Moneydance is expecting, and the mapping portion of the extension seems unable to correct things, which renders this extension useless for now.
Release 1.2 of the find and replace extension allows you to cut and paste to a spreadsheet, which will be a big help come tax time, but I was really hoping to do direct imports to my tax program this year. Unless changes are made to the txfexport extension, or you are improving this area in Moneydance 2010, it looks like I will be doing this the hard way again this year.
When you get to the point of needing beta testers for Moneydance 2010, I would like to sign up if possible.

Development on the TXF extension stalled some time ago due to lack of demand. I am sorry it does not meet your needs.
We will post a blog entry when we are ready for testing of MD2010
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

Unfortunately there has not yet been an update on the TXF export extension. When we do update it we will post about this on our blog. You can subscribe to an RSS feed to our blog with the following link:
