Support for paypal?
This comment was split from the discussion: Creating new categories on the fly
Well, I guess I am spoiled and since I spent all weekend entering data and working with categories a lot, I can see how it should become easier down the road.
The auto-complete option actually works very nice in Mint and other apps I have seen it, I would still like to see this improved, but it is not a show stopper.
I am all for getting things right the first time, but the rest of the world doesn't seem to care, which leave us in the minority :-)
Now I have to figure out how to import PayPal transactions, doesn't seem to be supported?
Thanks for your input

Hi mlooss,
I split this from the other discussion to answer your question regarding paypal.
As far as I'm aware, the only export format that Paypal supports is CSV. It is possible to import CSV files into Moneydance, although due to there being no financial standard for the format, it's somewhat manual.
You'll have to install the Text File Importer extension. Then go to Extensions -> Text File Importer, choose the Paypal CSV file to import, choose the account you want to import to, choose [,] (comma) as the Field Delimeter (unless they changed the delimeter for some reason--not likely), MDY should be the date format (though they may change it if you're using an international version of Paypal), and . (period) should be the Decimal Point. Then, press the "More Fields" button until you have 9 fields and enter the following for the fields (unless this has changed since I last checked):
The above fields correspond to the following fields in the Paypal CSV files:
Paypal includes many other fields that Moneydance doesn't need or can't use, so the Description and Memo fields are preferences, depending on what information from the Paypal file you want to include in your import.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

PayPal's csv files often contain several lines for a single transaction, each line reporting a stage of the transaction, placed, processing, confirmed, etc. While the csv extension works, it does not entirely solve the problem of decoding the multiple lines per transaction, in fact it treats each line as a separate transaction.
I'll have to figure out whether it's easier to edit the original csv file or delete duplicate transactions from the Moneydance ledger.
