Controlling merge transaction behavior
I have some transaction reminders that are set to auto-commit each week/month. These are associated with automatic payments scheduled through my bank's bill pay service. The problem is that the bank associates a check number with these transactions when they're actually issued, so I can't know what te check number will be ahead of time. So my Moneydance auto-commit reminder can't have the actual check number that the downloaded transaction has. I use Merge when verifying the downloaded transactions, but it always loses the check number that is downloaded. Is there any way to get Merge to use the check number from the downloaded transaction?

Hi moneydance,
Can you use the 'Current Transaction' choice? Once the txn is edited the 'Current Transaction' option enters the txn as is.
This might depend on whether or not in 'Preferences' you have 'Automatically Merge Downloaded Transactions' check-marked.

Kevin, I'm not sure what you mean. Yes, I have the "Current Transaction" option but that doesn't merge the downloaded txn with the auto-commit Reminder one. The Reminder txn has the desired Description and Category, but the downloaded txn has the Check Number. I want to merge them, taking the Check # from the download txn and basically everything else from the Moneydance Reminder txn.

I wonder if this behavior is intermittent. I've noticed the problem several times before, but today when I just tried it, Moneydance is indeed using the check number from the downloaded txns when I select Merge.

Hi moneydance,
It may be a matter of MD going through it's 'learning' process of prior entries.
Just curious, in Preferences on the Network tab, do you have 'Automatically Merge Downloaded Transactions' check-marked?

Huh, that's odd. Could you please let me know what OS, version of Java, and version of Moneydance you are running? This information is available in the Help->Console Window menu item, and will help us to better diagnose the issue. It would also be helpful to know what bank(s) you're experiencing the issue with.

@Kevin: no, I don't have that option enabled.
@Angie: I'm runnning MD 2011r2 (803) on OS X 10.6.8, Java 1.6.0 (latest from Apple). Since it seems to be inconsistent, I'll look for it to "misbehave" again in the next week or two and see if I can spot any patterns.
