I need to be able to look back to each month's budget to review how I am doing with meeting my budget from month to month throughout the year. This means I need to be able to select (for the Budget "Food") a January view, a February view, etc. Currently, my options are "this month", "last month", and then consolidated views of multiple months. Will this be updated?

    Hi toofelin,
Look to the Budget Report > Subtotal by Month

Can you be more specific? I assume you mean that when I click on "Budget" under "Graphs and Reports" that this option should exist, but I don't see it.
    Thank you!

    Hi toofelin,
Menu bar > Tools > Graphs and Reports.
In the resulting form, clcik on the 'Budget' report.
Look to the right side of the form, select a budget to display.
Select 'Custom Dates' from the drop-down list.
Set the 'Start Date' and 'End Date'.
Select 'Subtotal by Month' from the drop-down list.
    Click 'Generate'.
    See the attached screenshot.

Thank you, Ben, that is very helpful!

However, what I am looking for is to have a report or graph that would show me all the months for a specific budget. In other words, show on one screen the budget report for Jan., Feb., Mar., etc. That way I can see at a glance how well I meet my budget each month throughout the year.

    Hi toofelin,
I created a 'Budget' report with a Date range of 'Last Quarter' (Apr, May, June) Subtotaled by Month.
I've attached a screenshot of it. Is that something like what you are looking for?

Yes!! That is excellent! Can you point me to directions on how to do that?

    Hi tootielin,
Follow the instructions that I outlined in my post # 4.
When the report generates, look for evidence of a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the report window.
Scrolling will permit you to reveal all of the data.
You will most likely want to re-size the columns to your liking.
To do so, bring your cursor up to the column dividers in the header row.
When the cursor turns into double-facing arrows, you can then drag the column divider so as to re-size the column width.

    Hello
Is there a MD budget report that allows sub totalling by category? I used to do it in Q and it was very useful if you had a lot of sub categories e.g. Parent Category "Holidays" with sub categories of "Holiday X", "Holiday Y", "Holiday Z" etc Also is it possible to build a budget report that can be "drilled" through i.e. click on any value to display the transactions that built up that value?
    Thanks
    Mick

    Hi Mike,
Try the Income & Expenses report.
I've attached a screenshot of a Year to Date I & E report for the Parent Category 'Utilities' with Child Categories of Online Services, Satellite TV, Sewer, Telephone and Water. Grouped by Month.
Double-click on the individual line items to drill down.

    Thanks Kevin
The I&E report format and "drill ability" work great. It would be even better if the Budget amount could be shown in the report along side the actuals.

    Hi Mick,
In the 'Budget Report' there is an option in the parameters to 'Include categories not defined in budget'.
You may want to give that a try if you want to see actual vs. budgeted amounts for some of the 'Child categories.
I imagine that you could also add the 'Child' categories to your original budget but that could get a little 'busy'. Personally I try to keep the budget to 'Parent' categories only.
The caveat is that there doesn't seem to be any drill-down ability in the Budget report.

    Thanks Kevin
I've included "cats not defined" and it works well for me. Detailed budgeting is one of the key things for me with a money management package. I budget down to every sub category, hence the requirement for sub totalling by category etc. The ease of setting up and reporting of detailed budgets is the main reason I miss using Quicken. I was hoping that the Moneypie extension was going to be the answer, but it doesn't seem to run on Windows systems, see this string http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/questions/4999-moneypie-ex...
    Thanks for your suggestions

    Hi Mick,

I ran into similar issues with Moneypie under the following environment:

    Moneydance 2011r2+ (808)
    OS: Windows XP 5.1 x86
    Java: 1.7.0_07 (Oracle Corporation)

I played around with it for a few minutes and then uninstalled it.

    Hi

I'm the developer of MoneyPie and and still trying to reproduce the display issues people have reported in a few support threads.

I have the "latest" build of moneydance (803) and do not see any display problems where can I get 808, or was that a typo?

    -Regards John

    Still can't reproduce

    Windows XP SP3
    Java 1.7_0.07
    Moneydance 803
    MoneyPie 474

    There are no display problems?

    Hi John,

    Moneydance 2011r2+ (808)
    OS: Windows 7 6.1 x86
    Java: 1.7.0_07 (Oracle Corporation)
    Dell Inspiron laptop
    Intel Celeron
    4GB Ram

I've attached a screenshot of Moneypie build 474 illustrating the reported behavior. Look to the bottom of the screenshot.
Build 808 was a daily build that doesn't seem to be available anymore.

I appreciate the screen shots but they don't help reproduce the problem.

Is there any way you can try on 803?

I'd like to eliminate MoneyDance from the variable equation and I
don't see any way I can get 808

    Hi John,
I tried installing 803 on my new ASUS desktop.
    MD installed Java 1.6.0_21
    Win 7 Home Premium 64bit
    Intel i7
    16 GB Ram
The only extension that I installed was Moneypie.
I received similarly peculiar behavior as with 808 on the Dell
Maybe it's something with my particular data file.
If I get the chance I'll try stripping down a copy of my data file to just a few accounts and try it again.

    Thanks.

I appreciate the effort. The problem has been impossible for me to produce.

    So to summarize:
. You have confirmed it on two different machines.
. I assume two different video cards.
. And two different versions of java.
. You have also excluded Moneydance as the culprit.

So far I've been trying to produce the problem in a VM, I don't have an physical windows machines. Although there has been at least one Mac user that has witnessed the issue.

    The hunt continues …

    Hi John,
    Correct on all Summary counts.
Something that may be effecting the ASUS installation is that I'm running a Standard VGA display driver. (It performs better for the wife's online games)
I'll try switching it back to the latest driver, if I can pry her away from 'Gardens of Time' :)
    I'll post back tomorrow.

    Hi John,
Unfortunately, changing the graphics driver had little to no effect. If anything it made it worse.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 - 2 GB Ram
Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. I'm afraid I'm out of ideas.

I was not aware that a 2012 version of money dance was being released.

I just installed it and MoneyPie seems to be working even better for me. The few display glitches I've had are now gone. I'm wondering if it has any effect on the more serious display issue that your having.

Also note, the extension available through the menu is not the latest, the latest build 476 is on our website: http://ragingcoders.com/MoneyPie.html
