Transaction Matching

I recently purchased a license for Moneydance and have just begun using it in earnest.

I am having a problem with transaction matching that I don't recall having before. Last night I downloaded my transaction information from my bank as a MS Money OFX file. As I have stopped using Quicken altogether I downloaded the OFX and chose Moneydance as the appilcation to open the file whereas before I would save the OFX to my computer and use the File>Import process.

When I was in the process of matching the transactions I was unable to change the date on the previously entered transactions. For example if I had entered the transaction with a date of 6/30/09 and the transaction had cleared on 6/29/09 I would have to match the transaction which would take the date I had entered previously instead of the cleared date and go back later after all of the transactions were matched and change the dates to the actual transaction date. This involved going back to the bank website and looking at the list of transactions. In the past I think I could change the date on the previously entered transaction then accept the matching transaction that was downloaded.

One thing that I noticed was that the transaction matching happened in the original Moneydance window this time whereas in the past I swear a second window was opened.

I hope I explained that clearly enough so that it can be understood.

TIA,

Paul

Not sure if I didn't explain my question/situation well enough, question got lost in the background noise, or if there is no solution.

Thought I would give it a bump after almost a month. So far after almost of month of use this is one of the few things that I am not satisfied with.

I just switched too, and noticed that I am having this problem. For example - I just transfered some money to a different account today, July 24th, but when I download the transaction (from a Cdn bank as an OFX then import) it shows the transaction as happening on July 23rd. What is the disconnect here? Can someone provide some help. It's not a big deal now ...but I can see how it could become a big deal - all transactions that are downloaded seem to be off by 1 day.

    thanks

    Hi

I am sorry I have not responded sooner. We have been quite a bit busier on the support site than usuan and a few cases have slipped through the cracks.

Please see the attached screen shot.

In this screen shot. I have a entered a transaction in my register for my checking account paying the DMV $32 for my new drivers licence. I gave this a date of 5/20 when I initially entered it in the register.

When I import my transactions from my bank account I see that there is a transaction for $32 from "DEPT MOTOR VEHICLE" only its date is 5/19. I am fairly sure this is the same transaction and Moneydance offers it as a possible match.

Look at where the mouse pointer is in the screenshot. It is pointing at a transaction edit box directly above the list of the transactions you are importing. In this transaction edit box you can make changes to the incoming transaction. In this example I changed the date to 5/15 and hit the record button.

With regard to transfers between bank accounts not having the date on the transaction on which you indicated the transaction. That is because there is a lag between when you tell the bank you want to make a transfer and the bank actually carrying out the transfer. This is especially true if you instruct the bank to make transactions on the weekend.

    Sincerely

    Ben Spencer

Hi Ben, I can't see the screenshot picture - can you repost. Also, I understand what you're saying about weekend transactions and absolutely this is what happens, but I am talking about specifically that I made a transfer yesterday July 24th from main chequing into a savings account on my bank website I then downloaded the info; Moneydance recorded it as a new transaction for July 23rd (the day before). I'll just keep my eye on the transactions and change the date.

    Ben,

I just tried this now. It worked. Though I must say that it is not very intuitive. When I saw this, before your post, I got the impression that the "transaction edit box" was a new transaction.

Until reading your post and giving that a try tonight I would just click the "Done" button, adjust the previously entered transaction then click on the "You have un-recorded downloaded transactions" hyperlink to resume the matching process.

Thank you for your response and I look forward to my continued use of Moneydance.

    Hi Paul

I am in agreement with you. This process could be more intuitive. There are some changes coming in the MD2010 release that will hopefully improve this part of the user interface. MD2010 will be a free upgrade to users who purchased MD2008 and will be out before the end of 09.

    Sincerely

    Ben Spencer
