Report question on transaction report

What does the column "running" mean and how do I get rid of it? I am running a report for last year for Charity transactions for my taxes and it creates a "running" column that starts with a balance that I have no idea where it came from, and then subtracts my charity donations from it.

While I can't address your questions regarding the "running total" amount in the Transactions report, I would suggest trying the Income & Expense, Detailed report instead. I switched over and have found this a much "cleaner" way to view transactions made by category. I have set a separate report for each category. If you want to try it and need help setting up the parameters post back.

    Ageisse,
Which report are you seeing this in?

Transaction Filter. I use it to get a report on specific transactions for
a category like Charity for example. I can't seem to get rid of it.

The "running" column should be the running totals of the transactions for the particular account or category selected in the given time range. You can try to remove this by clicking on the "edit" button above the report and changing the "subtotal by _______" dropdown field to something more useful for your purposes. Try "subtotal by account", "subtotal by category", etc. until you find one that works for you in that particular report.

I also would recommend trying the "Income and Expense, Detailed" report to see if that works better, as suggested above.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Well you would think that is what "running" would be, but it starts out
with a high number that I have no idea what it is, and then adds the other
    transactions to it.

I've seen a similar phenomenon in my stuff, too.

I think it is a quirk of the double entry system that M-Dance uses. The "running" column is the running total from the "other side" of the double entry system. When you enter a check, say, in your Bank account, and categorize it as "Charity", the "Charity" account on the other side gets credited (or maybe debited -- I can't keep the two straight!). The otherside account seems to accumulate from the first transaction ever entered in M-Dance, but I have no idea where that first number comes from -- I have some too.

Use "Income & Expenses - Detailed" for all your reporting needs and you don't have to bother with that "running" total.

Ah, the magic "first" number in your running column seems to be the accumulated transactions since the beginning of time, up to the time span of your one year report. Edit, just for fun, and select All Dates and you'll see that the real initial entry is $0.00.

Thanks, I will try that tonight. Appreciate the insight.

Yes, "all dates" showed the right "running" amount. And Income and
Expense, detailed, worked for a better report without that "running"
    column. Thanks for the help
