Saved Passwords
Recently I have noticed that MD will ask for account passwords which were previously saved. I have no idea why this is. For example , when I recently updated my account transactions it asked me for individual passwords I had saved for months earlier? Do you have any idea why. I was using the same file saved on previous exits.

Hi davier12,
File > Encryption, check to see if 'Store Online Passwords in File' is still checked.

I checked that first and it is.

Hi davier12,
It sounds like it could be a write permissions issue.
To assist the MD Support Staff in helping you, you should provide the following:
Moneydance version
Operating System
Version of Java
You can glean this information from the first few lines of text in the Console Window listed under Moneydance's Help menu. Copy and paste the information into your next post.
Sorry I couldn't help.

Davier12,
Hi, as Kevin suggested I was thinking it could be a write permission issue. Your passwords are stored in your data file. Are you having any issues with saving account data between sessions of Moneydance?
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Dave,
I also want to double check has this happened multiple times or just once.

Over time it has happened before. I ignore it before thinking I had done
something, but when it happened last week I knew I had done nothing to cause
it.

Dave,
Thats interesting that it is happening on occasion. Is it happening continuously or might it not happen if you tried it right now?

OK, I downloaded all my accounts on Monday. It called for the password on
each. I input the password completed the work and saved the file. Per your
request I downloaded again a minute ago and it asked for the password again.
When I go to the individual account and ask for download it does the same
thing. I input the password again saved the file and closed it twice. It did
not ask for the password this time.

Dave,
So the last time it didn't ask for the password?
Was there something about how you saved the program maybe. Do you normally save upon quitting (or have it automatically do it?) Or do you often get prompted to restore from a backup when opening Moneydance?
Sincerely,

I'm having a similar, though opposite, problem and since this discussion is not closed it seems to fit here.
I don't want my password stored with the encrypted file. "Store Online Passwords in File" is UNchecked in the "Encryption..." -> "Please Enter Your Password" window. But, once I use a password for the account and save the file, Moneydance [2011r2 (803)] no longer asks me for my password. At one time, I did check that box and save, but decided later that I really didn't like that idea.
I have even tried the following:
Following the above steps, this is reproduceable by me, at least.

Hi reider,
Open MD to an account that requires an ID and Password. From the Menu bar > Online > Forget Online Passwords.

Kevin N, that only worked for THAT session. Once I saved (with "Store Online Passwords in File" UNchecked), it saved out the password. Steps to reproduce:
It appears to me that the password is being saved with the file even though Store Online Passwords in File" is UNchecked. This error using the above steps is repeatable.
Kevin N, can you verify that you followed my earlier steps (or these) and did not get the same results? If so, let me know what version of Moneydance you are using and I'll try that one.

Hi reider,
I vaguely remember a user having a similar problem. If I remember correctly, they needed to:
Remove encryption, close & save the file.
Open the file, forget the passwords, close & save the file.
Open the file, restore encryption.

Kevin N, sorry but it didn't help. Here's what I did to test...
==== This is your instructions to this point, then I proceed to test if it worked ====
Kevin N, can you verify that if you follow my earlier steps (or these) that you do not get the same results as me? As of yet, you haven't said if Moneydance does this for you or not.

Hi reider,
I can reproduce this behavior following the steps outlined in your post # 16.
Remove encryption, save and close.
Forget Passwords, save and close.
Restore encryption. save and close.
Passwords were required until I restored encryption. Once encryption was restored, I was no longer prompted for user ID and password.
I apologize for not following your steps earlier. As I said, I had vaguely remembered this issue coming up before. In that instance, the issue was resolved. Apparently it has resurfaced. I will yield to the MD support staff to further investigate this bug.

Hi All,
Thanks for the detailed steps to reproduce this. I've confirmed the bug in Moneydance and filed a ticket for it. It looks like the option isn't being saved correctly for some reason. Hopefully we can get this fixed shortly. We'll let you know once the issue is resolved.
