portfolio report
I am still trying to decide between SEE, iBANK and Moneydance. In Moneydance, I don't understand the "all %" column in the the portfolio report. It seems to make no sense. For example, I have one security with 17.61% gain in year 1, 4.32% in year 3, and 5.63% in year 5, yet the "all %" shows a negative 1.07%? What am I missing?

Try holding down Shift and Command together then pressing the number 3. That should take a picture of your screen.

That worked. Here it is.

Ageisse,
Well, that looks odd. Would you be willing to send me a data file containing just that problem account and securities so we can use it for debugging? You can send me the data file privately at Angie (at) Moneydance (dot) com.

And will my account number go with it ? That is not something I want going over the Internet.

Ok. Export it into which format?
Support Staff 9 Posted by Angie Rauscher on 25 Jul, 2011 08:28 PM
Andy,
Ok, here's what to do.
Go to File->Save As and save a copy of the file as For Angie (or something similar).
Delete all accounts except for the one containing these securities.
Open the investment account containing the securities, go to Account->Edit Account, and delete any account numbers
If you have online banking set up for this account, go to Online-Setup Online Banking and click Disable.
Then save and close the file and send it to me. Finally, re-open your "real" data file, which will have been left completely intact.
Thanks for your help troubleshooting,

Hi Angie,
After you troubleshoot this; Can you post the results of your findings here? I'm really curious to see what comes of this.
Thanks,

ageisse, I see the same thing you do. There are number of problems w/ reports relating to investment performance that I've posted on. For example, see
http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/md2010-beta/108-incorrect-...
There are others. I marked a couple threads reporting bugs as private since I uploaded private data.

Ageisse,
The file you sent to me was encrypted. Could you please send the password to Angie (at) Moneydance (dot) com. I've also moved the file so it will only be visible to support staff.
Thanks for your help in working out this issue,

I will send you an unencrypted one.

I would also be interested to see what comes of this analysis. I have very odd "All %" numbers on my accounts as well. It seems to primarily occur when the holding period is less than 1 year.

I've not seen the sample report. I saw a report using my data once and concluded the % change per year was based upon the change in the stock price for that year. Within such a report I'd be looking for that column to show the annual % investment return for that period of time. For example, If I buy ABC at 10 and it jumps to 20 and stays there then I have a 1 year return of 100%, 2nd year 50%, 3rd 33%, 4th 25%. I thought what was shown was change in stock price 1st 100%, 2nd 0%, 3rd 0%, 4th 0%. I did not study it.

Did Moneydance ever figure out this issue from the data I sent?
Support Staff 18 Posted by Ben Spencer on 19 Nov, 2011 07:34 PM
A bug ticket has been filed. The problem occurs if a security has been held for less than 5 years.
Currently the issue has not been resolved.

I think Moneydance calculates changes from prices regardless of time held rather than ROI based on purchase, current and time. What I'd like is ROI. Return on Investment. Ideally, but unrealistically, I'd like it to include dividends and allow me to enter a tax rate.
