Hi-

Trying to find out if I can actually print on completely blank checks, to include bank and account/routing info on the check? That was my understanding, but unable to make that happen yet...thanks.

    Hi Tripp,
I don't think it's possible for the general public to print checks. It's my understanding that the ink used to print the account number and routing number on checks is a specially formulated ink which due to it's nature allows the banks processing equiptment to read the numbers electronically.

    Tripp,

Kevin is indeed correct. You need to print on check stock rather than blank paper.

    Thanks for the input, guys-

But here's the thing: the stock I'm hoping to print on is check stock- the box says 'Bank-Approved' 'blue security pattern' stock purchased at Office Depot. The issue for me, however, is that this stock has no printing on it whatsoever- so if we, the public, aren't supposed to print our own checks, why would they produce and sell this kind of blank stock?

    Very confusing...

There is software out there that can print on completely blank check stock. However the process is somewhat complicated. The major complication is that the way in which the different countries have varying requirements on what, where and how the information is printed on the check. The requirements are quite strict as the checks need to be read by a machine. Given that Moneydance is used internationally it does not seem economical to implement this feature for all countries. And so we limit its use to pre printed check stock.

I am sorry if this does not meet your needs.

    Dear MD Support Team,

I have a similar but very different issue when it comes to printing checks.

I have preprinted checks with my account number and routing info but I prefer to print my personal information on the check, i.e., the inside address so to speak. Quicken 2007 calls it Check Art. Go figure. In any case, they provide a preference feature that allows you to upload a pdf, gif or some image format so that you can print your personal info write on the check.

This feature is highly beneficial for those of us who might move every so often and need to change their address on their checks.

I do the same for my business checks and while I don't actually move very often it is still a beneficial option for me.

Any chance of adding this feature soon?

    1) I would suggest it be a little more straight forward than Intuit's solution. In fact, I would simply provide the user with text fields to add their name and address and then provide a check box to allow the user to show or not show certain text fields on the check.

    2) I would also add a separate option to allow the user to upload an image file (gif, png, pdf or jpg) if they want to upload artwork or a photo and place it in the upper left hand corner of the check.

Other than this, MD rocks. I have download and tried countless other apps that don't even come close to you guys. Needless to say, in regard to Quicken Essentials for Mac, Intuit has seriously lost their way. In fact, they are not even showing up on the radar anymore. I'm using Quicken 2007 for Mac and it works fine but I simply want to find a highly robust app that will be supported over the next 10 years or more.

You guys seem to be the candidate.

Love MD. Just need the check print option and I'm on board.

    Awaiting your reply.

    Earl,
That is a great suggestion, I definitely think that could be helpful for some of our users. I've created a ticket of this suggestion for our enhancement tracking system. By commenting on this discussion it counts as a vote for the enhancement and helps raise its priority.
    Thanks again,

    Thanks Jon,

Understandably, and as you are aware, my checks are not actually blank. They are 2-part voucher checks that I order, more like starter checks from any bank, without the preprinted personal information.

I've been messing around with MD a little bit more and you guys really did a nice job on all of the features. Intuit could learn a few things from you guys. We'll just keep it quiet for now. :-))

I'm destined to purchase your software for sure. How soon do you think a suggestion like mine might take to implement? Just curious.

I'm recommending MD to my Mom as well. She's been looking for this type of financial software as well.

    Talk soon.

It is hard to say how soon such a suggestion would be implemented. As you might well imagine we get quite a number of suggestions and we do not have the resources to implement them all. We monitor this forum to gauge the support for a particular suggestion and use that to help us prioritise what to implement next. I am afraid that at this time it is impossible to give you an estimate on when it might be implemented.

Check art is an option that I would like to see return. Otherwise you have to print once for the address then second for the actual check info.

    Thanks,

Any update on adding payor name and address to checks? Have boxes of old quicken checks with no payor name (used to be added with "Check Art" in Quicken - pre Essentials). Love to be able to add my name and current address to my checks and if Money Dance does this then it is the software for me.

    Frank,

We're not currently actively working on "Check Art", I'm sorry to say. I'd encourage you to give our free trial a run to see if Moneydance will work for you, and you'll be updated on this thread if/when there are additional developments.

I am really very very disappointed with Intuit's decision to downgrade Quicken 2007 for Mac to Quicken Essentials. After having read many negative reviews about Essentials I bought the program anyway because I have a new Mac running Lion and Quicken 2007 is not compatible with the new processor architecture. I assumed by the name "Essentials" that all of the ESSENTIAL aspects of 2007 would be included. Evidently not so.

There is no way to print customized check art or my name and address on the face of the check. How could Intuit leave out this feature? Hat am I supposed to do with a large stack of blank check pages that have no check art printed on them??? I run a business from two different locations and need the option to easily change the address and art work logo.

Is this feature going to be added? I really can't use Essentials as it stands! I've used Quicken for Mac since it was first released many years ago. What is Moneydance? Do I need to sound more money to purchase another application now instead of Quicken?

Moneydance is an alternative program to Quicken. It is not affiliated in any way with Quicken or Intuit.

I am afraid that Moneydance does not support custom check art and at this time the feature is not scheduled for implementation.
