Moneydance Display, File Copy Questions, & Reminder Trigger

I have three questions that I need answers for:

  1. I have two computers (Laptop & Desktop) that have Moneydance installed. I update my Desktop checkbook register, and also updated some reminders. My question is which files need to be copied to my Laptop so that both computers have the exact same
information displayed when I open the Laptop's copy of Moneydance? If I just copy the Moneydance.md without the file having
today's date some information doesn't get transfered. I thought the files ending with today's date were a BACKUP file of the
Moneydance.MD file. That appears to not be true.

  2. My Laptop display is 1280x800 and Moneydance has all the information contained within the Displayed area, while my Desktop
which has 1280x1024 has the displayed information extended off the right side of the screen and there is a scroll bar so I can
slide the displayed image to the right to see all the reminders and Calendar. How can I resize/adjust this displayed information so
everything is displayed on one viewable window like my Laptop. There doesn't seem to be any option to resize the displayed
image to get everything on one screen's image. Am I missing something? Ideas? BUG? I've tried CNTL SHIFT S, and moving
the movable area to the left, but half of the Calendar is still missing off the right side.

  3. I have a Reminder set to trigger on the 10th of the month. It pays from my Bank on the 4th because the check takes 5 days to
reach the payee. I typically pay this around the 1st thru the 4th, so it gets to the payee by the 10th. If I insert a entry in the register
on the 1st and the Reminder is set to trigger on the 10th will there be a duplicate entry in the Register or is Moneydance smart enough to question the previous entry I made? Or is there a provision that allows me to setup Moneydance to ask me which
Reminders I want added to the Register, without automatically just stuffing them in the register?

None of these answers appear in the PDF manual.

    1. Everything is in the *.md file as you thought. (Except for your preferences settings.) Nothing else needs to be copied. If that isn't working, something else is wrong. More details on "Some information doesn't get transferrred?"

    2. Check File > Preferences, on the General tab, look at Font Size. Restart Moneydance after changing. I have mine set on +1 and I have to shrink the window down to about 1/2 of my 1280-wide screen before I get a horizontal scroll bar, so I don't know why you are seeing that.

    3. You will get a duplicate. Use either a manually entered transaction, or a transaction reminder, not both. But with a reminder, you can decide whether it should automatically commit, or just remind you. If it reminds you, you can decide when to record it and you can change the date.

    For Question #2: FONT SIZE
I tried +1, Default, and -1 to -5 and at -5 I can get the complete Moneydance image
displayed on my screen. But the Text is too small to see. I set the Monitor to 1024x768 and it is worse. I've taken a snapshot of the screen so you can have a view of what I am seeing. I am running Ubuntu 8.04.4 and the Display is a Hanns-G HW191W if that makes any difference. I have also removed all my data files and extracted all the Moneydance files from the *.tar.gz over the existing ones, to see if that made any difference. No change.

So, what could it be? I want a display like I am seeing on my Laptop.
    IDEAS?

You can see from the location of items in Ubuntu 8.04.4 just how much of the
Calendar is displayed. ONLY SUN and MON Blocks.......

Got it. Re (2), use Tools > Edit Securities and select that security (LUCENT) with the really really long name. Click Edit, then click Edit again and change the name to something shorter. It doesn't have to be really short, but the part I can see plus the part I can't is too long. That is making the left pane wider.

Then you can adjust your font and monitor resolution if you want.

I forgot to add: You need to restart MD, or just switch off the home page to a register and then back, after renaming the security before you will see the fix.

YES, THANKS......I used Tools > Edit Securities and select that security (LUCENT) with the really really long name and made it shorter. In fact I made all of them shorter.
That must have been a carry over from the Quicken Import. I would have never found
    it.

As a matter of fact now that you found the problem I found another similar condition.
If I have Investment Accounts NOT EXPANDED, my laptop screen is all contained
on the Physical Display, but if I EXPAND Investment Accounts I get extra information
added into the screen display making it larger than the screen can contain, and therefore a scroll bar is inserted on the screen to allow access to the other information. WHEW!!!! Now it all makes sense. And this condition is also due
to the long text of share information.

THANK YOU for finding and helping me FIX mt Desktop.

I still haven't got to the other two questions....
