How does Md handle Call and Put Options?

I'm in the process of trying to migrate from Quicken and been reconciling my many accounts.

I seem to have hit an issue though with 'put' options. quicken doesn't handle it too well - it records it as a short sell. However, in MD it does not seem to allow me to enter a security name.

I tried entering this transaction manually, I tried creating a security and it seemed to show on the edit security list. However, this security still did not show on the new transaction list. Any ideas?

    Monty,

    Have you seen this FAQ?

    http://help.infinitekind.com/faqs/frequently-asked-questions-2/how-...

You need to manually create the "call" or "put" as a stock option (you can select call or put and include both the strike price and the expiration date). You will then be able to manually enter transactions. Please be aware, however that as the value of your options change, you will have to manually adjust their value.

    Sincerely,

How does MD handle covered calls? I am selling the covered call and getting cash for it but when I look in my portfolio, the call is recorded as a negative value.

    PDK,

I apologize for our delayed response. Are you still experiencing this issue, and if so could you send a screenshot of the sale transaction, as well as one of the portfolio, so I can more clearly see what is going on? Thank you for your patience, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

I am looking for an alternative to Quicken since they do not support options trading. They require you to treat options like stocks, which, of course, they are not. Quicken cannot enter price changes automatically, and, If I have to do that, I might as well just use a spreadsheet for my investment portfolio. Does Moneydance support options trading in a meaningful way?

    David,
While Moneydance does support a variety of investment features, it is not our primary focus. I would encourage you to down the free trial from our main webpage (look in the top right corner) and decide for yourself.
Please let us know if you have anymore questions,
