I would like to share my accounts with my wife using our two separate computers. I would like her to be able to use her own computer to enter any of her expenses and update financial transactions without the need to use my computer. Can we have shared files between two computers ? Do I need to buy another licence ? We both have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8. Thanks to anyone who can guide me in setting up shared files.

    Lee,

Check this link out for your answer to the licensing question. They are pretty generous with their licensing - they count a couple as one person, and one person can use the software on as many computers as the person wants to.

If you share a network, I suppose you could share the file there, as long as you aren't working with the file at the same time.

I find the easiest way to share files between two or more computers is to use a free synchronization service such as dropbox. A number of Moneydance users use this service to share their data file. It can be downloaded from

    https://www.dropbox.com/

Using a service like this means to you have to worry about creating the correct user account and setitng the right file permissions.

You only need one Moneydance user account. With that you can install Moneydacne on as many of your computers as you like.

The one important warning is that you should not edit the data file on two computers at the same time. If you do the last computer to save will over write the changes made by the other computer.

    Sincerely

Considering buying moneydance and had these two related question...

Can I access from two computers running different OSes? I have one running Ubuntu 9.10 and another running Windows Vista.

IOW, from each computer will they see the same expensse categories (IOW are they stored in the .md file)?

    Paul,

You will need to download the correct version of Moneydance for each OS.
We have a simple formula to determine many licenses you need. Take the number of people using Moneydance and the number of computers (no matter the operating system) on which it is being used. Choose the lower of the two numbers and that's how many licenses to purchase. For the purposes of our license, couples count as a single person. More simply, you can either a) use it on as many computers as you like, or b) have as many people as you like use it on one computer.

You can access the same file from both computers (regardless of OS). I use Dropbox to deal with this, as I described above. You could also use a thumb drive or file server. Your categories and preferences are stored in your file, so they will be consistent between your computers.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Lee, to delete a transaction, simply select it and then right click. One of the options in the contextual menu will be to delete the transaction. Alternatively, you can select the transaction you want to delete and then press the delete key.
