Tacy,
I am sorry for the unreasonably long delay in responding to your issue. You've hit upon a small bug in Moneydance. The error window you received is too small to show the full error message, but it's not immediately obvious that there's more to the message. Please click and drag the lower right hand corner of the message window to expand the window, and then copy and paste the full error message here.
Sorry for the inconvenience! We're working on a fix for this so that in the future it will be clear that the error message continues past "Bank Name."

This is the message:
The error code reported by the server was: 15510
There was a problem with your online session. If the problem continues,
contact your financial institution to resolve it. Or, perform a one-step
update to receive the latest version of your software.
My American Express accounts also won't update. MD says there are zero
transactions to download, but I know that is not true, as I am still running
Quicken for Windows (2009) in parallel.
I am still using the trial version, XP operating system.

Hi Tacy,
We've recently released a new version of Moneydance 2010 (build 741) that should resolve your connection problem with Zions. You can download the update from our website at http://moneydance.com/trac/wiki/Moneydance2010Beta. Once you've installed the update, if you still relieve errors you may need to contact your bank and ask them to reset your PFM verification status on your account so that you can try to re-verify.
Also, please let me know if you continue to have problems with your AMEX card after updating. Thanks for your interest in Moneydance!

I downloaded the beta, and still can't connect to either.
Zions Bank - when I set up online banking I now get this message:
Additional information from the server:
SIGNON INVALID
American Express - The online set up works fine, but it won't download
transactions I know are there - it downloads zero transactions. I have 3
credit card accounts with AMEX, and had no problem with Quicken.
I am trying MD as an alternative to Quicken on my PC (XP OS), with the hope
of buying a Mac and using MD on it. MD is so frustrating - I can't get it
to download from American Express, Capital One (credit card) and Zions Bank.
I've spent hours bringing in and adjusting my Quicken data, and now the
download works for only one account - USAA. I just upgraded to the 2010
beta, as I read a post that the beta might fix the Amex problem, but no.
I really want to like MD but I am starting to think it will not work for me.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the issues are with MD. I just activated an account with Yodlee, and it brought in all these accounts with no problem. I much prefer Moneydance, and just want to get it to work. Please help!

Hello again. I've attached the console text since I reopened MD, tried to download all accounts, disabled and reenabled AMEX for online services, and tried to download that account again. Hope this helps.

Hello - Downloads from Zions, AMEX and Capital One still don't work - I posted a copy of the console the other day on the website under the thread for your review. Please let me know if I can do anything further to help your review. Thanks.

I just noticed this thread. I am a zions bank customer. I was able to work with the MD team and they added correction to download transactions from the bank. If you have the most recent 2010 beta, which is currently at build 741 it will connect, however, you do have to call up customer service and have them activate your account so you can do verification. Once you do that you have a set amount of time to sign in and activate, if you don't do it in that time frame you will have to have them reset your PFM verification again.
Can't offer any feedback on AMEX cards as I don't have one. But my accounts are downloading perfectly now from zions bank. I am enjoying MD so far, and am not at all disappointed that I chose MD over Quicken.

Tacy,
Re Zion's Bank: Most financial institutions will require you to enable your accounts for application-based online banking. I'm afraid it is usually more productive to lie and tell your bank that you are using Quicken. Moneydance uses exactly the same OFX server connection protocol as Quicken but you bank representative many not know this and mistakenly believe that they do not support Moneydance. Calling up your bank and stating precisely the following should get you started. "Please enable direct connect on my account such that I can connect to your servers directly with Quicken. Also give me the login credentials I need to connect Quicken to this service."
Application-based online banking often requires a different login/PIN than the ones that are used for ATM or web-based banking. When you enable your account for access from Moneydance or Quicken, your financial institution should let you know what customer ID/login and PIN to use.
Re Amex: I am sorry to hear you are having connection issues. I have passed your case along to our direct connection specialist, and she will get back to you with more information in a few days. I have asked her to prioritize your case.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

Thank you everyone. I think I have solved all problems, except Capital One downloads. Angie - no need to refer the AMEX question, I figured it out.
12 Posted by tahartman on 20 Feb, 2010 10:37 PM
Actually, one last question. I have attempted to encrypt all my passwords, but I am required to enter my new Zions password when I download (for the now newly downloading) Zions account. Does this have to do with their security protocols so that the password cannot be saved in MD? Also, they indicated I would be prompted to change my password after I do a new download, but this has not happened. Is that a problem?
13 Posted by tahartman on 20 Feb, 2010 11:33 PM
Please see my update on the web discussion - all problems solved (except
Capital One downloads, and I think that is their problem, but not sure) and
the ability to save my Zions download password. Thanks for yur help. I am
coming even closer to the decision to buy my Mac and use Moneydance. I love
your forums. Still lots to expolore with MD, but now my accounts match
those in Quicken to the penny.

Hi Tacy,
Do you have a Capital One bank account or just a credit card with them? Capital One Bank supports OFX direct connect just fine, but Capital One credit cards do not. I have no idea why they have this separation, but if you a credit card customer, the only way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to download transaction files from them and import the files into Moneydance.
Regard your Zions password: I'm sure from your comment if you're still having problems with saving your password or not. Did you get that worked out?

I will second what Tacy is saying that MD does not save your online banking password. Each time you download transactions from the bank it asks you to enter your password. It saves your Bank ID but not the password. It was nice in money to have the option to have your password saved so you didn't have to enter it every time.
My MD file is encrypted and the box is checked to save online passwords.
16 Posted by tahartman on 23 Feb, 2010 11:37 PM
Thanks, TJ. I still cannot save my password. FYI, in Quicken (I am running Quicken for Windows in parallel), once the bank resets your credentials, you log onto the bank through Quicken once and get your download using the temporary password the bank gives you. The next time you do a download in Quicken, it will ask you to change your password (the bank knows this and told me that would happen). Then, Quicken will store the changed password, and you don't have to reenter. That seems to be what is missing in MD - I am still using the temporary password the bank gave me, and it will not store in MD.
I have yet to do my second Quicken download with these new credentials. When I do, I will create my new password. I will then try an MD download with the new password, and see if that will store. I will let you know (but probably not until Saturday).
17 Posted by james f on 24 Feb, 2010 07:46 PM
For security purposes, MD does not save passwords as does Quicken and Money. For me, I'd rather have to have the security and have to input the password every time.
18 Posted by Tacy on 25 Feb, 2010 08:13 PM
James - disagree with you there, at least MD 2010 does save passwords (just not for Zions Bank yet, as far as TJ and I can tell).
Jessica - my Capital One account is a credit card, so I'll just do the OFX download for MD. Quicken sometimes can download directly, sometiomes not, so I was aware that Capital One has issued with direct connect. Thanks again!
19 Posted by tahartman on 28 Feb, 2010 02:02 AM
I can now update on saving of Zions Bank password - as I mentioned above, I am still running Quicken; when I updated from there, it asked me to enter a new password, which I did. Then, when I updated on Moneydance, I used that new password. MD now saves that new password, and I can download all accounts, including Zions, without entering passwords. This may not help anyone unless they are also running Quicken, as MD does not seem to have the capability to prompt for the new password, but it worked for me.

Hi Tacy,
Thanks for the update. The ability for Moneydance to connect to Zions involved a change in our code, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a detail around passwords that we missed. I'll point Sean to this thread so he can make sure that we've fully implemented the protocol correctly.
As for saving passwords, Moneydance won't give you the option to save passwords on unencrypted files, but you should be able to save passwords in encrypted files if the option is checked. TJ, you may want to try un-ecrypting and then re-encrypting your file. That may allow you to save your Zions password.

Thanks for the reply Jessica. I did find a solution to the save password problem with zions bank. I used the tip that Tracy posted concerning quicken and having quicken re-set the password and then money dance would save it. I don't have quicken, but there is an option to reset pin when you set up online banking. I decided to give that at try. I reset the pin, did a new password and did an online update with my new password I just set up. It now saves my password. Must be something in MD that requires you to have a new password or something in order to save. But I'm happy to say that it has saved my password and I don't have to enter it in anymore to download my transactions.

Glad the tip worked for you James, even without Quicken. Jessica, to further explain - when the bank gives new credentials (different from what you use to log onto their website), you use the id and password to log on from MD or Quicken. When you do this with Quicken, the SECOND time you update your account, Quicken prompts you to change the password. MD does not do this. But, if you then use that new password with MD, MD will remember the password. Alternatively, you do what TJ did and change your password on the bank website.
I'm not sure where on the bank website TJ went to change his password to get this same result, but perhaps he can explain further.
P.S. I had already encrypted the file and checked the save password box. That is not the issue - the issue is that the bank requires you to change your password from the one they give you over the phone, but the MD software does not prompt you to do that, like Quicken does.
Hope this helps, and thanks to everyone.
24 Posted by TJ Finlinson on 02 Mar, 2010 02:42 PM
The place where you can update your password is not online on the banking website, but rather inside of the Money Dance program. If you click on one of your accounts you can then go to the online banking set up in the tool section and there is a button that you can choose to reset your pin/password. I clicked that, it asked me to put in my current password and then type a new one. I'm assuming that this is the same thing that Tracy said she did in quicken, the difference is that quicken asked you automatically to change the password (probably because they have something in their code that triggers that flag, and Money Dance requires you to manually go and change the password. Once you do that, MoneyDance will save your password as long as your file is encrypted. Hope this helps anyone that might be looking to have their password stored in their file.

Hi TJ,
Thanks for the clarification. I'll talk to Sean about adding the password prompt to Moneydance. It's definitely a more intuitive way of handling temporary passwords.

I set up a money market account today with zion's and it appeared to work for direct connect, with bill pay enabled. I don't have any new transactions to download, though, so I'm not sure yet that it's working. The problem I'm having is with the Zion's bank Visa Card. They don't have direct connect for that, just web connect. I was able to download via web-connect in quicken. When I enter the web-connect password in md I get a signon invalid error message. The Zion's phone support I had for the direct connect for the bill pay and money market mentioned that web connect should be presenting a challenge question on the first connection from moneydance. I didn't see a challenge question, or a way to answer it. Is this why I can't get the webconnect working for the visa account?
Support Staff 27 Posted by Jessica Little on 19 May, 2010 03:45 PM
Hi Rachel,
Unfortunately, Moneydance only supports automatic connections through direct connect and not web connect. You can still download OFX, QFX, QIF, and OFC files files from your bank and import them, but there's currently no way to do this automatically from within Moneydance.
We are looking into the possibility of offering web connect but there are several obstacles for us at the moment. Since in web connect the program is interfacing with the banks web interface each different web connection with a bank will be different. Moreover, if a bank changes their interface then we may have to totally restructure that banks web connect process. Its all a bit of a daunting process, especially determining a method that meets our high standards of quality and security but we are definitely looking into our options. We will keep the Moneydance community updated about new developments in web connect for Moneydance.

Rachel,
Maybe you have already resolved this problem. But since there is no web connect with MD. The best way that I have found to update Credit Card Transactions is to download an OFX (Money) file and import it into MD. MD will ask you which account to match it too, chose the credit card and it will put all of the transactions in. You also have the option to select the dates when you download the File from the online banking website.
I don't now why they just won't enable direct connect for their credit cards.
29 Posted by TJ Finlinson on 14 Nov, 2011 02:51 PM
I have been using an extension in MD called Import List. It will monitor a folder and then display the files for you on your homepage view in MD. You can choose which file to import. What I have been doing with zions bank is downloading 1 or 2 times a month my credit card statement in the Microsoft Money Format (OFX) and saving it to the directory that I have set up. MD does a great job of importing those OFX files and matching them to the correct account. From there it is the same as if you did a direct download from the bank.
Web connect would be pretty cool, or even an extension that would download those things for you. I read in the extension development that a few people are working on that. But for now, using the Import Extension seems to work pretty well for me.

Hi TJ,
We are actually working on Web Connect features and hope to have it ready for the next major release of Moneydance. Basically, you'll be able to go to your bank's website from within Moneydance and have the downloaded files automatically import. Since this is an oft-requested feature, we will definitely let everyone know once it's been implemented.
