Can't establish online banking with American Express

When I try to start online banking for my Amex credit card, after entering my userid and password, at the next menu ("Please choose the account that you wish to use") both options (online banking and bill payment) are grayed out.

This problem occurs regardless of whether I use New Connection or Manual Setup. (Using manual setup I have entered the OFX info found at http://www.ofxhome.com/index.php/institution/view/424.)

I have a Macbook Pro, OS X 10.6.2, running Moneydance 2010 (723), Java Version: 1.6.0_17. My online banking works fine with my MS Money account (even running on my Mac using Fusionware).

    HI tplate,

That fact that the connection seems to be working for most folks makes me think that perhaps there's some information that's got messed up on some people's individual installs of Moneydance. We can test that out but clear out all of the connection information in your Moneydance install and then trying to connect to AMEX again. I've attached a file that will help do that. Before proceeding, please back up your Moneydance file, just in case something goes wrong. So far, this hasn't caused any problems, but better safe than sorry!

To use the file, first save it to your computer and then follow these steps:

    1) In Moneydance, click on the Extensions Menu and choose the "Add..." option
    2) In the window that pops up, make sure the "From Internet" option is selected and then click next.
    3) From the list of available extensions, choose the "python scripting interface" extension, then click Next to download the extension and finish to complete the installation.
    4) Again, click the Extensions menu. This time, choose the "Python Interface" option.
    5) In the python scripting window, click the "read from file" button and load the file from whereever you saved it. You won't get any confirmation of anything happening, but you also shouldn't get any error messages. Close the window when done.
    6) Set up the connection to your bank like normal. Since all of your settings have been cleared, you should get the most recent connection information for your bank.

Hopefully, that will work. If it doesn't, please let me know.

Jessica, I was going to do that, but then I couldn't see any attached
extension on your message. Could you resend it, perhaps with a direct
    cc to ***@acm.org too?

    thanks,
    Tony Plate

Ok, that fixed it. Now it's working and I can download my American Express transactions.

    thanks!
