2 problems with Moneydance I just purchased

I just today purchased Moneydance and have the following problems. I had the same problems when I downloaded the free trial but figured they would go away if/when I bought the program. I’m running it on a Mac PowerPC G5 with OS 10.4.11

Problem 1: I started the program and set things up the way I want them. But when I attempt to re-start the program, I get the original dialogue box with three options: Create new file; Open existing file; or Import file. I followed the directions in your Knowledge Base to try to get this to stop, but to no avail.

Problem 2: The program will not close by choosing “quit” from the either icon in the dock or by choosing “Quit Moneydance” in the program itself. I have to force-quit the program.

If I have these problems and I haven’t even really started using the program, what will I find when I do?

I’m beginning to think this was a bad investment.

I just got off the phone with Apple. This seems to be the problem with backing up and finding a current MoneyDance file. For some reason Moneydance does not flag the .md file as being modified each time there is a change to that file. Because it is not flagged as being modified the data file that is saved on Time Machine is the last file that was modified. In my case it happens to be 4-9-2009.

Is there some sort of disclaimer that says that MoneyDance does not work with Time Machine? I think this is pretty important. Looking at spending a couple of days entering all the data from 2009.

What is going on? Never had this problem before. Please help.

    Hi Benjamin

This is odd. We use time machine here at Moneydance and it definitely backs up the .md files correctly. The .md file is definitely marked as modified every time it is changed. When a file is changed it uses call to the operating system to make the low level write. The operating system then marks the modified flag and date. That isn't something that is exposed to the application level.

Is it possible there is something wrong with your time machine settings. Perhaps you are not looking at your most recent time machine backup.

    Sincerely

I think it had to do with the update. Whenever I updated to the new version that is when the problems began. Whatever happened I don't know but right now I am stuck with having to re-input all of 2009. Most recent files all are from 4-29-2009 so that does not help. The new version must've read from the modified Time Machine file or something. Anyway.
Perhaps you can help me with making it easier to copy transactions from a PDF file my credit card company only keeps OFX files for that last six months.

    Thanks,
    Benjamin

Add insult to injury. MoneyDance is now telling me I am running a trial version and that it needs a license number. I have been using MoneyDance since 2006. I couldn't find my license number can you please email my code.

Thanks again - BTW I am almost done re-inputting all my data.

I am purchasing a new iMac with Snow Leopard OS or, possibly, Lion OS.

    I have two questions:

    1. May I legally transfer my Moneydance software to the new machine?

    2. Will the software I new have be compatible with the new machine?

    Hi David,

May I legally transfer my Moneydance software to the new machine?

Yup. Look to the 'How Many Keys?' section of the following webpage for a brief explaination of the licensing policy:
    http://moneydance.com/purchase

Will the software I new have be compatible with the new machine?

Look to the following knowledge base article:
