It would help support staff or other to help you if you can provide more information.
What version and build of Moneydance are you running. e.g 2017.10(1706).
What is your computer operating system.
What exactly happens when you try to open Moneydance, e.g. do you get any error messages or does it open an empty data set or just does nothing.
Can you post your Moneydance errlog.txt file from your ".moneydance " folder as this could help is find the issue
I am not an expert at reading the errlog.txt but to me it does not look good.
Sorry I am still not clear what happens when you click on the Moneydance icon to start the program. If nothing appears to happen then I would download Moneydance again and re-install it.
If that does not help try renaming the file config.dict say add a old on the end. Comfig.dict_old. Try to start the program again.
If the program is opening but none of your accounts show up click on the “+” on the bottom of the side bar then ADVANCED and see if your accounts are listed. If they are move them to the Include Items window.
If this does not help you need to try and find your data set.
Your data set is not a file but is a folder containing other folders and files. The naming convention for the data set folder is yourdatasetname.momeydance.
The default location for a data set can be found under HELP – SHOW DOCUMENT FOLDER. This opens a file finder at this location. Close moneydance. Search for your original data set folder, if you find if move the folder and its contents to this location. Open moneydance again and use FILE – OPEN and select your original data set.
If you can’t find your data set or it wont open you need to find Moneydance backups.
Moneydance has two methods for making a backup.
The default backup location can be found under HELP – SHOW ARCHIVE FOLDER in a folder called Backups.
Manual backup. A manual backup is made under FILE – BACKUP EXPORT. The file naming convention is yourdatasetname-yyyymmdd-tttt.moneydancearchive
Automatic backup is set under FILE – PREFERENCES – BACKUPS. Auto backup makes a backup every time you close Moneydance. Moneydance only keep the last auto backup of the day, overwriting any previous auto backups for that day. You can set the number of backups to be kept. When this number is exceeded the oldest backup is deleted. The file naming convention is yourdatasetname.yyyy-mm-dd.moneydancearchive
A moneydancearchive file is a compressed data set.
If you can’t find your backup in the default location search for a file with the extension “.moneydancearchive” and move the file to the default location.
Restore a backup using FILE – RESTORE FROM BACKUP.
When you FILE – RESTORE FROM BACKUP a new data set is created with the naming convention – from manual backup yourdatasetname-yyyymmdd-tttt.moneydance the date time code taken from the backup file - from auto backup yourdatasetname (plus at number) e.g. yourdatasetname 2.moneydance The default data set location can be found under HELP – SHOW DOCUMENT FOLDER.
You can rename a restored data set with Moneydance closed as you would any other folder provided you retain “.moneydance” extension. A data set is a folder not a file containing other folders and files. When you open Moneydance it will open in the “Welcome to Moneydance” window with the data set name listed on the right.

Appreciate your help. I downloaded and reinstalled MD for the third time with no change. Renamed the old config file without effect. I’m suspecting that Avast is messing with the program since I just updated that antivirus software. Having trouble following the rest of you suggestions because of my limited computer knowledge. Is this still in the queque for examination by the support staff?
Support staff read these threads and if they think they can add to the advice given they step in.

Scenario 1 it does nothing the program want start.
• If it’s not opening and you think it’s your Avast antivirus software blocking Moneydance is Avast giving any warning messages? Is there a setting within Avast that allows for program to be excluded from being blocked?
• You could try downloading and trying the 32bit version instead of the 64bit version.
Scenario 2 the program starts but no accounts are displayed in the Moneydance summary page. That is the program starts but appears not to be opening your data set.
• If it opens did you try the “+” at the bottom of the side bar as suggested?
• If you can’t find your data set or your backups define the issues you are having in finding them, maybe I can help further with this.

Thanks for your help. The mystery was actually quite mundane. Somehow,
the program display had been minimized. By right clicking on the box
showing the name of the data set, I was able to maximize the display and,
behold, all is well. Not sure how it happened originally and sorry to have
taken your time over such an embarrassing mistake, but happy to be back in
business again. Thanks for your efforts and patience.
Starting minimized is an often reported problem on the Mac, and from what I have read sounds like it can be hard to detect on a Mac, but this is the first time I have heard of it happening on Windows, guess it is something to watch out for.
