What Bank in particular?
There have been recent reports of the issue that you are describing with clients of Wells Fargo.
Is the file from WF?

It is Wells Fargo

You have several options...
1) If you're using Moneydance 2017, then update to the latest preview build - currently MD 2017.10 (1701)
2) Run the python script provided by forum member hleofxquotes on the WF file prior to importing it.
3) Wait for WF to resolve the issue. From what I've read on these forums, they have been made aware of it.

No 1 fixed the problem, thanks a lot, I really like the program and want to
get away from Quicken. Now I know I have something I can depend on

You're welcome. I'm glad to hear that it fixed the issue.
