I want to send a copy of my 'fiscal year" to my accountant. I start with export - and then send file as an attachment; however, he is unable to open the file. What should I do so that he can open the file?

What file format are you using?

If you haven't tried it yet, try exporting as a Tab delimited file, naming it something.xls . You want to use the .xls for compatibility with Microsoft Excel data base program.

    Hi Elinor,
You may also want to try creating a report of your fiscal year finances. Perhaps the Income and Expenses Report. You could then use the 'Save' option to save the report in one of the available file formats.

    Hi Elinor,

You can get to the reports and graphs section of Moneydance by scrolling down on the sidebar on the left, where your accounts are. If you scroll down far enough, you'll find the Income and Expenses report that Kevin was referring to, and also the Income and Expenses, Detailed report may be helpful.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

    Hi Elinor,

You should also be able to access the Income and Expense reports from the Moneydance Menu bar. Click on Tools, then click on the Graphs and Reports menu item.

From the resulting form, select the desired report from the list on the left, set the desired parameters from the choices on the right and click 'Generate'.

    Hi Dr. Garely,

Open Moneydance to your Income & Expense Report.
In the upper right-hand corner are several buttons. One of which is 'Print' and one of which is 'Save'.
    See the attached screenshot.
    1) To print the report, click 'Print' to open the printer dialogue box allowing you to select the parameters of the print job.
    2) To save the report, click 'Save'. In the resulting dialogue box, choose a Format from the drop-down list that your accountant can read (probably Comma Delimited)
    Click the 'Browse' button.
    An Explorer window will open.
Navigate to where you want to Save the file.
Name the file as desired making certain to retain the .CSV extension.

You can then email the .CSV file to your accountant as an attachment.

I followed your instructions (step 2) however, I was unable to locate the
CSV extension - so the document lost all formatting.
    Other suggestions will be appreciated.

    Elinor,
In step two after you have selected 'comma delimited', you will press the browse button to find a location for the file. The file should already have as part of the name '.csv', just make sure that when you are naming it you retain the '.csv' part.
Does this help to clarify things?

    Hi Elinor,
Are you going to the file menu at the top left and selecting File- > Save or are you pressing the 'Save' button at the top of the report in between 'print' and 'memorize'.

    Hi Elinor,
What do you mean that all the formatting is gone? What program are you trying to open it in, how does it look in there?
    Thanks.

    Hi Elinor
If you want to save the fie with the formatting of the report in tact then try saving the file as HTML instead of Comma Delimited.
Open Moneydance to the Income & Expense Report.
Click the 'Save' button in the upper right.
    Select HTML as the Format.
    Click 'Browse'.
Navigate to where you want to save the file.
Make sure that if you rename the file that you retain the .html extension.
I've attached a screenshot of the Explorer window that opens when you click the 'Browse' button. Note the .html extension of the filename.

    Hi Elinor,
You're welcome. I'm glad to hear that it appears to be sorted out.
Your accountant may be more concerned with the raw data contained in the .CSV file over the pretty formatting of the .HTML file. If I may make a suggestion, perhaps you should send him / her both files.

*What I did not understand (and just guessed) - that I had to write html

I thought it should show up (who knew?"
    Thank you so much.
