Error:java.io.UTFDataFormatException:
I accidentally erased my .md file. After renaming a backup file
I get the message "Error:java.io.UTFDataFormatException:".
I sync with Dropbox. The accounts on my smartphone and tablet are
correct but I'm afraid I'm going to lose them with a sync.
Any help will be appreciated

I suggest that you find the most recent backup .md file, delete the appended date to the file, and place the file into the folder where your Moneydance .md data file used to be, start Moneydance, and voilah. It ought to be that simple. You won't get an error message from Moneydance when doing it that way.

Thanks for your help. It didn't work with the most recent dates but it did work when I went back 5 days. I'll fill in the entries from there. Thanks again...

I may have created more problems. I couldn't remember the file name so I made up another name for the backup on the PC (which is working fine on the PC). How can I find the existing file names I'm using for the tablet and the smartphone.? Thanks

You should be able to find all your Moneydance data files by using your computers search function to search for all files ending with the .md extension.
