cannot merge check transactions when cleared over a month after written

Twice in the past year I've had a problem where someone deposits a check I wrote over a month after its date then I can't merge the original and downloaded entries. (in this case I wrote the check on 11/11/11 and it was deposited on 12/29/11). I downloaded the transactions from my bank sometime the first week of January, but MoneyDance won't offer to merge the original and the downloaded transaction. The option simply isn't in the column on the right like it is normally, just confirm current transaction and a list of supposedly similar payees.

A general comment about merging check transactions---it seems like the first option should always be to merge a downloaded check #XXX with the check #XXX already in the registry, but it's not.

If you go to Moneydance (File for PC) > Preferences and select the Network tab you can change how far MD looks back to match transactions. The last option on the page is "only match transactions that are XX days old..." (or something of that nature). If you set it for over 30 days it may solve your problem.

Thanks. That let me merge the check. I will try to come up with a
more concrete example of when the merge suggestion is wrong and put it
    in the suggestions forum.
