I imported about 10 years worth of Quicken data from Quicken 2006. Now every time I open that file in Moneydance, it takes 60 to 80 seconds for moneydance to open. Is it the amount of data that is causing this, or possibly some other issue. When I click to close Moneydance it closes immediately

    Hi Brian,

This certainly could be a result of the amount of data, although how your computer handles that data depends a lot on your system (processor speed, RAM, etc.). Are you using the latest version of Moneydance?

Another thing you may consider once you have successfully imported all your data is to use the archive feature to remove your older and less-readily needed data from loading each time. This usually helps improve load times in large data files.

I'll try archiving when I get home. Thanks.

    Hi Brian,
A nickles worth of free advice...
Make a copy of your Moneydance data file before performing the Archive. Sometimes the results can be less than desireable and it will make it that much more easy to restore your data.

Ok tried archiving and no change. Still takes 60-90 seconds to open every time. Tried archiving the first 9 years of data and no change in the amount of time it takes to open. Tried importing different amount of data from quicken as a qif file, still takes same amount of time to open. The qif file I'm importing has all of my accounts from quicken. I had just imported 1 or 2 separate accounts at first and those seemed to open fine, but every time I try and import all of my accounts in one qif file from quicken, it takes 60-90 seconds to open. I would hate to have to import each account separately. Any ideas?

Can you tell me what extensions you have installed. On some networks the net sync extension can cause the program to take an age to start up.

    The extensions are:
    Credit Card Paydown Calculators
    Payoff
    Find and Replace
    Configure Handybank
    Moneydance Updater
I had also read about the network sync slowing down the start up, but I don't have that installed.

The configure handybank extension may well have the same issue as the network sync extension. If you remove that extension does the problem go away?

I'll try and see if that helps. That would suck if that's the extension that's causing that. That's really the main reason I wanted to switch to Moneydance, to sync with my phone.

Ok, after some trial and error, I think I narrowed down the cause to an extension I have installed. I uninstalled all my extensions and closed moneydance. When I reopened it, it only took 3 seconds to open instead of the 60 to 70 seconds it has been taking. I've been testing each extension I want one by one. So far, it opens fine with:
    Find and Replace
    Configure Handybank
    Moneydance Updater
I'll let you know how it goes after I download my banks transactions. My banks site is doing scheduled maintenance so I can't download anything right now. If everything opens fine once I have the downloaded transactions imported, I may call it a day and just be happy with these extensions for now.

I'd be curious to hear the final result if you continue your testing.

Well so far so good. Downloaded my banks transactions just fine. Synced with Handy bank worked fine. Closed and reopened MD with no issues. The three extensions above were the main ones I wanted, so far now, I'm just leaving well enough alone. I may get brave in the future and try another report type extension and I'll let you know how that goes. I did notice the 3 extensions I have are from you guys and Menne software. Not sure if that's just a coincidence or not but they all work without causing any issues. I'm liking MD alot more now. If I had any suggestions, where is the best place to make them?

You can start a fresh post with your suggestions. We do pass on the user input to the developers and much of the functionality of Moneydance has evolved from these suggestions.
