Build 792: Download investment transactions without being asked for password

I am running build 792 on Mac OS 10.6.8.
I use File Encryption, but left UNCHECKED the box "Store Online Passwords in file".
I have set up all eight of my accounts at Fidelity Investments to download transactions (these are the only accounts I have set up for this). Today I clicked on Online>Download all Accounts and to my surprise, MD logged in and downloaded transactions from my Fidelity accounts without asking me to enter my password.
I remember that I was asked for the password when I used build 791.
Regards,
Fred

    Hi Fred,

I wonder if something got reset in your encryption. Try this: First, un-encrypt your file and have Moneydance forget your online passwords.. Save the file, close Moneydance, and re-open Moneydance. Next, re-encrypt it, being sure to leave the passwords option unchecked. Again, save, close and re-open Moneydance. Hopefully, it will no longer store your passwords.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thanks for using Moneydance!

The same problem as reported in my original post of 8/31re-appeared. I am still using same build and OS. Something makes Moneydance forget my setting. The checkbox "Store on-line password in file" in the File>Encryption dialog window is and has always been unchecked.
I'll try your resetting trick again, but why do I need to do this again? Should this be flagged as a bug needing some attention by the developers?
    Kind regards,
    Fred

    Hi Fred,

We've released a number of updates since build 792, including the recently released stable version of Moneydance 2011r2. There are a lot of bug fixes in build 2011r2, so I would suggest updating your installation and doing the resetting trick. Hopefully, the problem will then be resolved for good.

    Hello Jessica,
    thanks for prompt feedback.
Installed r2, unencrypted, saved, encrypted saved > was prompted for online password to download from Fidelity- great!, so far. Then used same Online>Download All Accounts a second time and was NOT prompted for password this time.
Then closed and reopened encrypted Moneydance and could download WITHOUT being prompted for the on-line password.
Looks like r2 didn't solve this one?
    Regards,
    Fred

    Jessica,
please re-read my feedback on using r2: It did NOT solve the problem.
If r2 had solved the problem then I would expect to be prompted for the password every time I want to download my accounts. I was prompted once for the password. In subsequent sessions, I am NOT prompted for the password.
r2 did NOT solve this problem.

    Hi Fred,

I'm sorry, I definitely misread your email! I'm still not quite sure what is causing the problem. I'll pass this on to our developers to see if they have an idea what might be going on.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'll let you know what I hear back.

    Hi Fred,

A quick question: Do you see this issue with all of your accounts, or only with your investment accounts?

    Hi Fred,

The option to not save your password in your file means that Moneydance will re-prompt you for the password the first time you download for each user account (i.e. login name) each time you run Moneydance If you leave Moneydance running, you will not be re-prompted for your password until the next time you restart the app.

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Jessica,
I only have my investment accounts set up for downloading, so that's the only place I can see the problem. (I don't want to pay my banks to download from them other then thru webconnect).

    Sean,
I typically quit Moneydance when I am done working on my finances. When I restart the application, I am prompted for my pw to open Moneydance, but I am not prompted for any username or password when I download my transactions.
I was prompted for the download pw (pw only, no prompt for username) after I used the "reset" route provided by Jessica, but I got this prompt only at my first session. After quitting and reopening MD, I am no longer getting prompted for the3 download username or pw.

    Fred,

I'm sorry for the long silence one this issue, it seems we lost track of this issue in our inbox. If you would be willing, could you send me the contents of your error console? I'm not entirely sure this will help to diagnose the issue, but it can't hurt.   Here's how to get the log in Moneydance 2011:

    1)  In Moneydance, click on the Help menu and select the Console Window option.  This will open the console messages window.
    2) While the Console Window is open, attempt to connect to your bank.  Any error messages should be recorded to the Console.
    3) Select all of the text in the Console and use the "Copy to Clipboard" button at the bottom to copy the text.
    4) Paste the text from the message window into a text file (preferably saved with a .txt extension) and attach that file to your response here.

The debugging logs that this produces will contain your account information, so you should send them to us directly at Support (at) moneydance (dot) com. Just to be safe you should redact any account info in the debug logs.  Just replace it with something like "ACCOUNT NUMBER HERE" and it should be fine.

    Helo Angie,
the problem still exists, but I learned to live it .
I created the Console log as you instructed - when pasted into a Word doc, it was 56 pages long, from downloading 9 investments accounts (IRA's) I am holding a Fidelity, which would take me to long to clean out from confidential info.

Attached is a log which i created, when I switched on the Console Window after I completed the download, probably of a use to you. The blue xxx in italic are my edits of account identifiers

    KInd regards,
    Fred

    Hi Fred,
If I understand correctly what you didn't include then I think that may be what we are actually interested in. Would it be possible to save and then clean up just the beginning of the connection to the bank? We don't really need all the data of the download but we do need to see how the connection is established since that is where this password issue is happening.
    Thanks.
    Sincerely,
    Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support
