Status of Reconcile Account
I am running MD on a 2Gb iMac, 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.
I just perform a reconcile of an account with less than 200 transactions and it took about 6 minutes. On previous occasions I thought that MD was looping and aborted MD. Activity Monitor shows MD to be running at 100% or greater. This should be looked into. While MD is reconciling it appears to tie up MD, i.e., it does not appear to be running in the background. As a general rule, if a action is going to take longer than say 5 seconds MD should provide some status information otherwise the use may think MD has run amuck. I suggest that MD output a message every 5-10 seconds showing its progress. If possible, show how many transactions have been processed out of a total number to be processed. That is, something like "10 of 200 transactions processed".

I vote for this as well!

Can you confirm if you are referring to the reconciliation process that is activated by selecting Account->Reconcile... or are you referring to the transaction download process?

This discussion is referring to the reconciliation process that is activated by clicking on the Done button after selecting Account->Reconcile. If you wish I can provide a data file which is ready to perform the reconciliation.
The transaction download process has a similar problem but I've open another discussion for that issue.

Yes please provide an example transactions file. This will allow me to run a profiler while performing the reconciliation to see that is causing the bottle neck on your file. You can send the file to ben @ moneydance.com

Hey Ben,
Just to clarify, I voted for this because I would like to see a progress bar or something similar during the delay that occurs after starting the reconcile process, not any delay after hitting "done". I do not experience any delay after hitting "done" as posted by John. I do experience a delay between clicking "OK" in the reconcile dialog box and when the reconcile window with the transactions with yellow diamonds appears.

Jim,
It took less than a few seconds for the Reconcile Account: window to appear. My file's size is about 12Mb on a Mac. How large is yours?
John
Ben,
Did you get the file I sent to you?

Hi John
I did not receive the file. Perhaps it as bocked because it was greater than 10mb. Could you compress it as a .zip and send it again.

Yes that is the correct address.

I have received the file.
The problem seems to have been caused by the Portfolio panel being recalculated and recreated after each transaction was marked as reconciling. Doing this repeatedly took a awful lot of processing. I believe we have the problem fixed and the fix will be included in the next release.

Ben,
I'm glad I could help solve this issue. Sometimes a customers database is a better test case than ones used by developers. Especially when the database has years of activity and is quite large. It is now over 12Mb in size and has thousands of transactions.

Ben,
I noticed that when downloading transactions it takes a lot of time. Could similar logic be part of the download process?
