Can't reinstall on Mac. Gets hung up
Hi,
I've been using MD for months. However, i was switching some PC files and user accounts and now have the application which won't launch. I do still have my data file. All i get is the moneydance application toolbar, but the application never opens. I've tried unistalling the application, downloading the new version, and relaunching. However, I can't get the application to open at all, and just the menu bar is displayed (showing Moneydance option only (preferences, quit, etc)). It won't open. I also am unable to quit the application and need to do a force quit. I've tried removing a few times and reinstalling to no avails. Any thoughts why this application is getting hung up, or anything else i can try?
thank you

HI
I am uncertain as to the cause of this problem. I suspect that there was a problem loading one of the extensions. Some of the extensions require java 6 that you may not have. Here are instructions for manually removing the currently installed extensions. Go to finder and press command-shift-G to bring up the Go To Folder dialogue box. Enter "~/.moneydance" without the quotes. Look for a folder called fmodules and rename it fmodules.old

Ben,
I'm still having challenges after trying what you referenced.
What i tried:
- unistalled application (dragging app to trash). - renamed fmodules (then later on next test, deleted that entire folder). - downloaded the application and reinstalled.
Have tried to open the applicaion or launch from my .md file and no luck either way. I am also unable to quit the application (though it never opens) and have to resort to "force quit" to get it to go away.
Screenshot of what I see what the application tried to load is attached (all of the menu options don't appear).
thanks.

Can you try taking everything in the "~/.moneydance" folder and putting it in a new folder called 'old'. This will essentially reset Moneydance to its default state. If you still have trouble then the problem is either with your data file or your java installation. If you would be willing to email me your .md data file I can have test it to make sure it is not corrupted. my email is ***@moneydance.com

Hi
I received your data file and I can open and save it without problem. So you data is fine there must be something wrong with the configuration of Moneydance or your computer perhaps your java installation .
Your email to me said that you can now open the data file and use it. And that the system hangs when you try to save. Do you get any error messages when you try and save? Where do you try and save too? Are you certain that you have write permission to the place you are trying to save too?
Please select Help->Console Window before trying to save and paste any console output to this discussion.

Ben,
Thanks for the update.
1) Below is the export from the console window.
2) I am able to get in only when: I copy / delete the moneydance folder to
"old.". Then the application will launch and i can open the existing file
and function, and save. I can not reopen it without freezing on the open
(only Moneydance shows up in the toolbar). To get into it again, i need to
do the delete moneydance folder step.
Next steps?
Thank you.

Hi,
It seems like your preferences files are getting corrupted when you save and exit Moneydance. You should check the permissions on your .moneydance folder an ensure that you have full reading and writing permissions on that folder. You could also try completely deleting or moving that folder and letting Moneydance recreate it the next time it starts.
