The current version of Java is 1.6.0_20
You can download it from suns website.

Please try this later version and see if resolves the issue for you.

Hi Paul,
By Scroll, do you mean with a mouse scroll wheel?
I've found the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard work best in the those fields.

Ben,
I have the latest version of Java installed, as detailed below and shown on the 'About Moneydance' window, but I am still unable to scroll with the mouse wheel in the pop up windows.
It looks like I had the 1.6.0_20 version installed and in fact today was alerted to the 1.6.2_21 version. I believe my problems started when I installed the 1.6.0_20 version a few days ago but strangely Moneydance was reporting that I had version 1.6.0_17. The odd thing is that when I go to the Windows 7 'Control Panel' and click on the Java 'Control Panel' it reports that I have the version listed in my first post even now.
After a little more searching it appears that I have at least three Java installations including a 64bit. That is one thing that has always annoyed me about Java is that it never seems to uninstall old versions. Should I uninstall all versions and manually download the latest? 32bit or 64bit? I seem to recall that I need both versions for 32bit and 64bit versions of software.
64bit
Path: C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin
Version: (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
32bit
Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_18\bin
Version: (build 1.6.0_18-b07)
Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin
Version: (build 1.6.0_21-b07)
Kevin,
Thanks for the suggestion but I find that when navigating with the mouse, using the right hand, that it is inconvenient to reach across the keyboard and use the arrow keys to navigate the pop up menus.
Now that I have typed the above paragraph it seems a little petty and if I wasn't already used to using the mouse to navigate I am sure that I would have no problem using that technique.
Paul
Edited to correct version numbers.

Paul,
At this point when you go to Help -> About Moneydance, what version of Java is it reporting that you are using? This is the one MD is using and the one relevant to our purposes. 1.6.0_20 or 1.6.0_21 would be the appropriate versions.
If MD is using those and your problem persists, let me know. We will need to then look at your error log and see if it is reporting anything unusual.
Sincerely,

Jon,
Below are the versions of Windows, Moneydance, and Java. How does Moneydance know which of the three versions of Java, listed in my previous post, to use? If I update my 64bit Java does Moneydance use that one? If my most recent update is to the 32-bit version of Java does it then use that one?
Windows 7 64-bit
Moneydance 2010r3 (751)
Java 1.6.0_21
Thanks,
Paul

I'm a new MoneyDance user having this same problem with Windows XP. I've noticed that when the pop-up scroll window appears, if I move the mouse cursor onto the scrollbar area before using the scrollwheel that it works as it should, but if the cursor is NOT in the scroll bar then it will close the pop-up window as soon as I try to scroll.

Hi Corin,
Thanks for the work-around.
It would appear that somehow the scroll bar in the pop-up is no longer given the initial focus when it first opens.

Any update on this? Can the team get this to repro, and is it hopefully slated to be fixed in a future release?

Hi all,
I don't currently have an update for this fix, but the bug ticket is attached to this case and I've emailed the programmers to ask for input. When further progress is made we'll post on this thread with updates. Thanks for you patience, and I'm sorry this is taking so long to resolve.

In the transaction edit mode I can't use the mouse scroll wheel in any of the popup windows. Check #, Discription, Category. The window immediately closes when moving the scroll wheel on the mouse.

We have tracked down the source of the bug to an update in the java distribution. I am afraid we don't yet have a fix.

Funny thing, when I use the Edit feature in the Transactions report I can scroll within the Account drop-down box with no problem. But everywhere else I have the same problem as mentioned above. Is there something different about the Transactions report?

Thanks, Ben. Appreciate the update. Just knowing that you guys are hearing our feedback and investigating things is a big help.

Then why is MD the only app on my computer that is affected this way?
Jerry
Support Staff 16 Posted by Jon Hoover on 07 Nov, 2010 01:06 PM
Jerry,
From what I was told by the developers they believe that it has to do with custom settings Moneydance was setting for these properties. The newest version of java is no longer responding to the custom settings, such that this bug would only manifest if you were doing something outside the norm for Java.
It could be helpful for us in further troubleshooting of this issue to know what java apps are not affected; would you be willing to fill us in on what apps are working fine for you?
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Jon,
On retesting I found that some java apps do have the same problem. As an example JaBack9. I thought that Open Office and some other apps that I use were java based, but I may be mistaken.

Open Office does have certain parts in java but I believe the primary parts of it are not.

I also have the same issue where I can not scroll anymore in the category dropdown. I am using Java 1.6.0_22. Is there any way for me to go to an earlier version of java? How long do you think it will be until there is a fix? Days or weeks?
Thanks!

Hi Anna,
You can download earlier versions of Java at http://filehippo.com/
Just type Java in the Search field.
I had to uninstall Java 1.6.0_22 in order for the drop down list to function properly.

Hi all,
I would suggest reverting to a earlier version of Java (1.6.0_21 is fine) as we work to fix the issue with Java 22. I don't currently have a timeline for resolution of the Java 22 issue, but we will post on this thread when we have more information.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and I apologize for the inconvenience this is causing,

I have been trying to figure it out, but can not. How do you uninstall
java on a mac???
Thanks!
Support Staff 23 Posted by Ben Spencer on 27 Nov, 2010 04:25 PM
You can switch between major java versions (e.g. 1.5 and 1.6) on OS X by using the java the following utility In /Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences.app
Unfortunately according to Apple the only way to revert to an earlier version of the same major version to java is to reinstall your Operating System. Ouch!

Ben,
Thanks for the reply, but I looked there and the only version I have
available is 1.6.0_22. I have attached a screen shot.

I am not sure why you don't have java 1.5 available on your machine. Presumably you never had it installed. I think it is not important as I would not recommend downgrading to java 1.5 from 1.6. This would be a very significant downgrade which would mean some of the Moneydance extensions could not be used.

Thanks for the quick response... I must have had it installed because
the scroll feature used to work, and it is really frustrating that it
doesn't now. When will this feature be fixed? I just want MD to work
like it used to...
Support Staff 27 Posted by Ben Spencer on 27 Nov, 2010 07:10 PM
I think I have confused the issue between major and minor version of java in OSX.
If you previously had an earlier major version of java on OSX such as java 1.5 compared to java 1.6 you can switch between these versions using /Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences.app
However if you updated the minor version of java e.g. java 1.6.0_21 to 1.6.0_22 you are out of luck. It is not possible according to Apple to revert to the earlier version without reinstalling your entire operating system. You must have recently updated to the new 1.6.0_22.

Just started using MD again after some time away. Too bad to see that this issue is unresolvable on Mac OS 10.6. Hope there's a solution soon.

Soren
I have reverted back to Java 1.6.0_16 because of trouble we are haveing with UK Fund prices download but a side effect was that the mouse scroll now works !! I do not know of anything else that may have caused this to happen.
After uninstalling Java 1.6.0_22 I downloaded version 16 and installed it, then altered th Java panel to stop automatic updates.

Neville

Neville,
Thanks for the reply. Post #27 from Ben says that I would have to reinstall my OS to revert to an older Java version. Are you saying this is not true?
