Registration not working

I just bought Moneydance and am trying to register. When I launch the application I get a message that says this is a trial version. After I enter my registration code the "Help > Register Moneydance" option says that this is registered. However, when I close the application and re-open I get the same message that says this is a trial version. How do I get this to register for good?

A secondary problem is that when I try to add an extension I get a message that says "Error: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Users\Administrator.moneydance\tmp\balpred.tmp (The system cannot find the path specified)". There is no ".moneydance" folder in either the Administrator or my user account folder (C:\Users\Administrator or c:\Users<my ID>). I have uninstalled and reinstalled about five times to no avail.

    Tony,

Hey I am just a satisfied user of MoneyDance and want to try and help.

I'm don't have any ideas with your first problem, But it sounds like it might no be installing with the correct permissions. If you are installing in Windows 7/Vista you could try right clicking on the install file and choosing run as adminstrator when you re-install. Doing that should install the program with the proper user rights and who knows maybe it would fix the registration thing too. Anway, something to try. I'm sure the offical Moneydance support team will have better ideas for you.

    Good Luck.

    TJ,

Thanks, I am running Vista and did "run as administrator" every time I installed. No success. Thanks for trying.

    Hi Tony

Can you confirm that you have been able to save your data file at least once?

Yes, I have been able to save the data file at least once, and actually more than once. The data seems to be OK, but I can't get the registration to save. I even have set the preferences to save the file when I quit to ensure the file is always saved.

It is strange that there is no .moneydance folder installed. I am running Vista and I did the install as an administrator, so I don't think it is a permission issue, but the symptom implies that it is (hence the uninstall/reinstall several times).

I have resolved the issue. I logged on as Administrator since the app was being installed in that user location. when I installed it created the .moneydance folder under c:\users\administrator. I had to change the security to give the other user (tbirrittieri) permission to write to c:\users\administrator.moneydance, but once I did that everything is working fine now.

That is surprising. When Moneydance tries to create the .moneydance folder it it is my understanding that it tries to create it in the current users home folder. Such that if you were logged in as 'tony' it would try and create the folder under c:\users\tony

I am glad the problem is resolved and I am sorry for the trouble this has caused you. I have reported the issue to the developers and I am sure we will get the issue fixed in the near term.

    Sincerely
    Ben Spencer
